Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal.Remove the air inlet duct from the throttle body. Remove the two bolts on the starter, beginning with the top bolt. Disconnect all electrical connectors attaching the starter to the battery.Remove the starter motor from the throttle body. Install the new starter motor into the throttle body. Torque the bolts depending on the size engine the Cavalier has. If it has a 2.2-liter engine, torque the bolts to 37 foot-pounds on a VIN 4 car and 30 foot-pounds for a VIN F. On a 2.4-liter engine, the bolts should be 66 foot-pounds. Connect the electrical connectors to the new starter. Reattach the air inletduct to the throttle body. Reconnect the negative battery cable and test the new starter with the ignition switch. Good luck and hope this helps, If you like to use some lock tight. Just make sure you do not use the red lock tight, the blue one is not as strong so you can alway remove the bolts easier if you ever have to do it again.

Forget the top note, left my computer on and went to lunch. Need to have a chat with some one here.

Park the Cavalier on a flat paved surface and apply the parking brake. Place a wheel chock behind one of the rear tires and open the hood. Remove the negative battery terminal.

Lift the Cavalier with the floor jack and safely secure the jack stand beneath the front frame rails.Locate the starter. It is in the middle (but more on the driver's side) of the engine on the bottom of the transmission. You will notice a bell-housing cover enclosing the backside of the starter. Remove the three bell-housing bolts using the ratchet, a socket and the extension. Remove the bell-housing cover.

Disconnect the nut from the starter stud holding the electrical connections, using a hand wrench or the ratchet and a socket. Remove the starter-brace-to-engine bolt, using the ratchet and a socket. Locate the two starter bolts and remove them using the ratchet, a socket and the extension. You will note the inside bolt is longer than the outsideRemember this for replacement. Remove the starter.

Insert the new starter into place and thread on the starter bolts, makingsure the long one is on the inside. Tighten the bolts. Replace the starterbrace-to-engine bolt and tighten. Reconnect the electrical connections to thestarter stud, replace the nut and tighten. Replace the bell-housing cover and thethree bolts and tighten.

Lower the Cavalier to the ground.Replace the negative battery terminal and tighten. Test start the Cavalier and shut it off. Restart a few to test. Release the parking brake, close the hood and remove the wheel chock.

Good luck and hope this makes more scene.

Disconnect your negative battery cable. Remove bolts from starter. Remove wires (remember exactly which way the wires are pointing). Connect wires to new starter, install and re-bolt,reconnect battery cable.

A good start would be to get a good quality repair manual, but you can go to autozone.com and register, input the year make and model and they have a fairly good online repair guide for your car.

there`s no reset for this. what has probably happened is its gone into relearn and you just have to drive it until it learns your driving habit and runs properly.

How to replace a 2005 chevy cavalier starter?

First disconnect the ground (-) post on your battery then you will need to raise your car off the ground high enough to get under it to remove the starter you do not need to lift the engine it has two bolts holding the starter to the engine they will be near the trans at the head of the starter .
Disconnect the wires with a 8mm wrench and a 13mm wrench then remove the bolts holding the starter.
It sounds like the solenoid has gone bad which is on the starter
once you have gotten the starter replaced go to your nearest chevy dealer there may be a open recall to have a relay installed in the wiring to your starter to prevent the solenoid from burning out again
Hope this helps you and good luck.

Chevy cavalier will not start. Key to Aux will get power. Key forward will not get anything.

I guess this vehicle is automatic and if so The chances are the inhibitor switch is faulty. This is the switch that tells the car that it is in Park or neutraland therefore ok to engage starter motor. You can some times wiggle the shift stick in and out of park whilst holding key forward, should the starter engage or try to engage then you will know this is the fault and may need either replacement or adjustment.
