Question about 1997 Jeep Cherokee
Hi Jeep Cherokee 1997 2.5TD engine check light lights after a few seconds running
Engine starts fine , is very "clattery" noisy for maybe 10 seconds (Engine check light stays off) then engine noise disapears and Check Engine Light comes on !!
i have done the key on off on off etc. and the code it flashes is 32
also the rev counter/tacho has stopped working (this stopped the first time the Check engine Light came on & hasn't worked since)
How do i fix these problems !! Thank you very much for any Help

The common problem with the dashes on the Jeep is contacts. Remove the cluster and try cleaning the electrical contacts with a Q-tip and alcohol replace cluster and try again.

I just had those similar symptoms with my 97 grand cherokee a week ago and my crankshaft position sensor had to be replaced...hope this helps.

SOURCE: intermittantly when im in stop
self test is with the ignition key switch. you need to cycle the key off-on, off-on, off-on. The check engine light will flash out codes in pairs of numbers. The end of the test will be 5-5. report back with codes. But I'm betting its the crank position sensor.
