Question about 2002 Volkswagen Jetta TDI

This is driving me crazy

I put an aftermarket radio in my 2002 jetta TDI. SInce that time my air conditioning and cruise control stopped working, The cruise control does not engage, but the green dash light says it's on. The air conditioning is really crazy. It blows but the compressor does no engage. If you try to put it on and you have the switch turned to recirculate, the emergency park engaged light goes on and then the audible alarm. I heard crazy things can happen with aftermarket radios. I tried disconnecting the radio and seeing if the rest came back, but it didnt. I told the dealer about the problem and he looked at me with three heads. I even was able to recreate the emergency brake light issue in front of him. I dont want to drop it off with someone who has no clue. What should I do

You have a ground problem somewhere in your dash.
Some of your symptoms say you have a bad brake switch (on brake pedal) but all of your symptoms together scream bad ground...

You may have made your constant power hooked into the same wire they are on so you may need to run straight to the battery for constant power. if you've already done this then id make sure you didn't unplug anything.

I pulled my switch out of the dash and sprayed it with contact cleaner. Air dry and put back in. 2 years without a problem. If you're not electrical savy, I'm pretty sure there was a recall on that, and it should be replaced for free.

Get some electronic parts cleaner from radio shack or a electronic parts store, remove each glow plug terminal and spray liberally and reinstall with dielectric grease, this may not work, hate to say that, but you may have to replace the wiring loom to the glow plugs, they are not the best quality wires, they other issues may be related to corrosion too, try the cleaner and dielectric grease has solved a lot of problems for me in various cars. good luck

2002 Jetta TDI radio fuse number? After battery vent dead, need to reset radio by pulling fuse. It is not marked in fuse box and no fuse list is in mannual.

The Fuse number is..... drum roll..... 42 .... And you don't even have to have a dead battery for the radio to lock up. I have owned my 2002 tdi since New... and about 4 or 5 times a year radio dies. When you remove the fuse... don't immediately put it back in.... The capacitors in the radio have not fully discharged and if you put the fuse right back in.. chances are it will stay locked. I count to 15... then put the fuse back in. Close fuse door.... Operate radio normally till next lock up.... then repeat process. So you won't forget the fuse number... write #42 in the white space of your fuse location sticker that is attached to the inside of the fuse door. Hope this helps... tried to be detailed.

It's just bad timing. Aftermarket radios have nothing to do with cruise control. Cruise control is attached to your cable line for your pedal near your throttle. It'a normally a box attached next to it. That is running on the battery separately and maybe a sensor to warn if it's not working properly.
The radio factory radio, is attached to many sensors in cars. If you have one that worked with volume contols on steering wheel than you might of sparked a problem. If that is the case (where you could control factory radio on steering wheel), than all you need is to go to the dealer and ask them to reset your gauges and warning lights. let them know whats up. Might cost you nothing. Also when replacing certain parts, the cruise control might have been tampered with and doesnt work.Or has been detached. normally you will have a blinking light steady, blink and it disappears. But check with dealer for the reset.

After they have done this, check to see if it occurs again. If it does, than it might be a shorted out wire connecting one of the sensors from the large important parts you had replaced earlier and it was just result of coincidental timing.

especially when replacing timing belt and water pumps. Even mechanics make mistakes!
Good luck.

did batteries work temporarily?.. you then have a parasitic leak sucking power when not running...radio aftermarket or alarm or gps will do it ...also checking ground from battery is critical to good connection
