Contact your state's attorney general's office, and file a consumer complaint, you may be surprised as to how quickly they will respond.I don't know the law for your state, but here in Washington it's illegal for a dealer to sell a vehicle that is unsafe for the road, and they are required to bring the vehicle to safe driving condtion or they have to sell it as parts or salvage which the dealer is required to disclose to the buyer by law.I hope this information helps

Sorry but , Ford is noted for not recalling the Pinto exploding gas tanks. Internal memo said, "Cheaper to let people burn in 15 MPH crash than accept responsibility" Also look at Explorer exploding tires.
On my Ford, the steering arm snapped off. Zero steering control!! Lucky I was 100 feet from home not on freeway

In my 2004 ford explorer - when I let off the gas pedal I have a thumping sound. As soon as I hit the gas pedal again it quits. When it is coasting it is thumping.

I'm not sure what you mean by "Thumping". Please explain if this thumping is engine or body related. Try to describe the symptoms with more detail. Thumping to me, could refer to a Random Misfire, Internal transmission failure, Using the 4WD while on the wrong road surface or the tires are not all the same size, a defective U-joint (in the drive-shaft), a defect inside the rear drive-axle (ring&pinion), maybe a defect in a tire (not balanced or a bubble in the side-wall or tread), wheel bearing, ball-joint, tie-rod, or a needed alignment (observe if the vehicle pulls to one side and look for irregular tire wear). Let me know, good luck.

I have 2004 Ford Explorer with a thumping feel and sound. When I drive over 50 mph and let it coast, the thumping starts. I feels as if it's coming from the back but not sure. The check engine light is...

if your lucky, its just a u-joint going out.

try replacing the u-joint which connects the driveshaft to the rear end(differrential), and if that does not solve it, then have your differrential checked out (a bad differential usually wont get all the power to the wheels that its supposed to) or just have it replaced, possibly with a junked differrential form a wrecked vehicle with low miles.

When i make right or left turns beneath my driver side i hear a thumping/pulling sound

there is a numer of things tha cause this bad ball joints tie rod ends for loose wheel bearings try this get the front end of the truck off the ground take a long bar pipe and place it under the tire if the tire move up and down replace the ball joints or my way take a big pair so channel locks and try move the ball joints up and down also try this on your tie rod ends. to check for loose wheel bearing try moving the tire side to side if you can fill play replace the wheel bearings and seal.

'99 Explorer, thumping on accelleration.

You could have a bad tire, if the truck sat for a long period of time. You may also have a belt separation in the tread of the tire.

Check for a dammaged tire. Unusual bubble in tred or side wall. Replace tire. You could also have a bent rim. Replace if bent
