Question about 2001 Saturn S-Series

1 Answer

I have a 2000 Saturn L series 4 cylinder. The car starts up fine but sputters and runs really ruff when idle. When you start to go everything is fine, no problems. One mechanic told me it was a dead cylinder and the engine needs to be changed. Can anyone help? Do this sound like a problem anyone else has had?

Scan check egr valve make sure its working. check plug wires and vacuum hoses +pvc valve make sure its not stuck open.bad or dirty fuel injections.causes rough idling.if all is good do a compression test to check for weak cylinders or low compression.

I have a 1997 saturn sw2 that stopped runnuing changed fuel pump wont idle error code #4 cylinder is miss fireing changed ignition module car starts runs ruff changed spark plugs & wire set

You need to make sure the cylinder is getting fuel and that it doesn't have a vacuum leak at the intake that is leaning it out and causing a misfire, if that checks ok then determine if the #4 cylinder has acceptable compression as compared to the other three, all cylinders should been within 5% of the cylinder with the highest pressure on test.

1992 Chevy S10 2.5L-4 cylinder. just started today outta no were. it idles really rough and pops then when i step on the gas it sputters and pops also smokes a little. help please..

My 1990 S10 pick-up had a similar problem too. It would start up fine (while the engine was cold) then once the engine warmed up it would idle very rough, sputter, and even stall out. My grandpa and I found what was wrong finally. The fuel distributor had been cracked, so when the engine warmed up it would miss (giving either too much or not enough fuel). So I recommend that you check that. Hope this helps.

I would start with washing the throttle air intake out ,it looks like you are trying same as most of us some times we over look the simple things, have you checked the air filter? intermittent are ruff to find does it happen like on rainy day or high moisture, have you had it scanned ?it could also be catalytic converter,i have seen them lose and part in side they are expensive, listen 4 a rattle when U give it a jar, again to save$ i would start with a scan

2000 grand prix, 3800 when it warms up losses power

I would have to say the fuel/water separator filter is clogged up. The filter will remove water and crud from the gas. It looks more like a small can under the car. If the car set up with a low tank of gas, water will condensate inside and once the new fuel sloshes around it gets all this junk off the walls of the tank and that gets sucked in the filter. Try and replace that first..

High Idle 2000 Saturn S series

Definately have a sensor problem...but that may not be all. You can blame the sensor issue on the idling problem. The overheating in park is likely one of 2 things, provided you have adequate coolant. #1 a sticking thermostat or a bad coolant temp sensor not activating your fan at idle. What you should do is have your diagnostic codes read in order to take care of the sensor issue. Most national parts chains such as Auto Zone or Advance will do this at no charge in hopes of selling you a sensor. Good Luck! I hope you find this to be very helpful.

double check your firing order and make sure all wires and hoses are plugged in good. when you pulled the push rods out did you make sure they went back exactly where they came out because there are 2 different lengths.

2000 dodge intrepid 2.7 sputtering, revs up

you need to ck some basics you could have a vacuum leak which would hide during warm up but cause havoc when hot,the leak would cause high idle then your pcm would try to lower idle to spec thru use of idle control motor causing surging idle ,also fuel pressure needs to be checked while acting up,may be more cost effective to pay for an hour of diagnostic.

2001 Saturn SL No. 1 Cylinder Mis-fire

Solved my problem: After more internet searching and consulting with my mechanic we determined it was the intake manifold gasket folding over into the #1 cylinder. This is common on Saturn engines. The gasket folds over leaving a leak in the vacuum system which causes the car to run lean. Check for a leak by spraying carburator cleaner around the #1 cylinder intake and you will hear the idle change if there is a leak. I had gasket replaced for $450 and car runs like new. My car is a 2000 saturn SL 1 with 60000 miles on it. Hope this helps someone.
