2003 passat sedan. water on floor and in heater fan

I have a 2003 passat sedan. after a night of heavy rain there was water on the drivers side floor and you could hear the heater fan spinning in water. after about 20 min of driving w/ heat and ac on the fan in water noise stopped. i have heard thsi before but never had water in the car. it has a sunroof but i don't think the drain tubes are plugged because the roof pillars are not wet-thsi has happend before.

I don't think it has anything to do with the sunroof. I think you have a leak either around the windshield or under the cowl where the wipers are attached. If it's in the cowl area probably over the blower motor housing on the right and the water is following the vent system to the drivers side. Please let me know how you made out.

Thank you

Wet floor under drivers feet

A wet floor indicates one of two things; either rain water or coolant.

Press a paper towel into the wet spot on the floor / carpet. If colorless, it is likely rain water that has entered through an open window, an opening in the sealant between the windshield and the body opening for it or an opening in a seal between panels of the firewall.

If there is a green, pink or yellow tinted color, it is probably coolant. If it feels slippery between your fingers and has a "sweet" smell to it that further suggests that it is coolant. A check for lowered coolant level in the radiator / empty reservoir can all but seal the diagnosis.

The leaking rain water can be tough to find if the source is not immediately and plainly visible. If it is a coolant leak - it is probably coming from the heater core - as it is the only place coolant enters the cabin. The leak in the heater core *may* be able to be stopped by adding some of those "radiator stop leak" additives directly to a cold radiator. More often then not - the heater core will need to be replaced. The cost of this job can vary significantly based on the amount of labor required to gain access to the heater core itself (often it is buried up and behind the dashboard - requiring a large portion of it to be removed).

Below is the process for a 2003 Passat.

This is nearly always a job for a trusted mechanic. Good luck!

Why is flooring on drivers side wet during heavy rain along with flooring directly behind driver seat (in back seat area)??

If passenger side is dry it would point to a problem with the door seals on the drivers side either a door or sunroof if you have one. If there is that much water you could sit in the car, have someone use a garden hose or pressure washer on the door and sunroof to see where the leak comes from.

Waterleaking passenger floor all wet!!! where is the heater coil and can i by pass it

call any auto parts store to find exact location of heater core. yes you can bypass it, but you will have no heat inside of car, it needs to be replaced. to bypass just hook hoses from core together, without going through heater core.

Heavy rain leds to water on drivers side floor

you might want to peel the carpet back and check for hole in the floor board. this is not something you can see just by crawling under to look at. Light has to pass through. Carpet pulls up easy from under the pedals, remove thebottom of the door jam like four screws and then you will know for sure.

My driver side foot well gets wet

If this only occurs during heavy rain you have a problem with the drains around the bulkhead. Alternatively the heater matrix could be leaking. Check to make sure you are not loosing coolant from the engine. If you find you are constantly topping up the coolant then heater matrix is suspect.

Water pouring into 98 passat help needed urgently please

The vw Passat are known for this problem, you will usually find a crack on the plastic panel at the bottom of the windscreen, or else this same panel is incorrectly fitted. In this case alot of rain will get in through the pollen filter and through the heater box and lodge in the front footwell.
