Question about Chevrolet Tahoe

3 Answers

I have a 2001Tahoe and am unable to turn on any interior dome lights. I can not do it manually nor when the door opens. I have checked the fuse and replaced it. It wasn't burned visually, but I changed it anyway. I have also checked the dome override button and it is not depressed. Any suggestions on cause?

As I mentioned it is not just one light. I am unable to turn on any interior lights. Any reading lights, door entry lights or door panel lights. Would be a real coincidence if they all burned out.

    Thanks though.

I do have a meter. where should I check. Oh, the moonroof doesn't work either. I just checked that. Is there more than one fuse that might control everything in the headliner?

I alos have an 03 yukon xl that I am unable to move the drivers side power seat forward all the way. occasionally it will move up, but only if I depress the control to move it back. what about that one?

The '01 tahoe interior lights are supplied power via the Inadvertant Power Relay - which is controlled by the BCM (Body Control Module).

Either the IP Relay has failed - or the BCM has failed.

Thanks :D

P.S. The '03 seat problem sounds like binding or limit switch problem.

I assume you have checked the bulb -- is this correct?

Do you have a multimeter or a 12 volt test light?

  • Samuel Charles Spriggs Jun 04, 2009

Okay. To do any troubleshooting you'll need a 12-volt test light or a multimeter -- do you have either of those?

I checked the GM shop manual for a Tahoe and found the section that goes step by step for this lighting problem. The problem is I don't have a scanner and there is too much complicated text to try to type in.

The things to check are: shorts between the panel dimmer switch, the panel dimmer switch itself, the door jamb switches, the interior lamp control module, the keyless entry module, door lock control module. I hope this gives some ideas for all of you to check out.

06 Silverado interior lights don't work when open doors dome light work on switch can't find fuse

If the lights work on the switch then you have tested the fuse. The fuse is listed in the owner's manual. Is this problem true for all four (or two) doors? None turn on the interior lights when opened.

Dome lights won't work on my 2005 Chevy equinox

The courtesy lamp supply voltage circuit of the body control module (BCM) supplies battery positive voltage to the dome lamp, the liftgate lamps, and the map lamps. When any door is opened, the door jamb switch contacts close providing a door open input to the BCM. The BCM then provides a ground to the interior lamps with the switch in the AUTO position. The interior lamps receive a ground at G401 with the switch in the ON position.
The following lamps may be manually turned ON by placing the interior lamp switch in the ON position, or by opening a door while the switch is in the AUTO position.

The dome lamp

The liftgate lamps

Courtesy/map lights

You can't turn them on manually ?
This could be a BCM problem , this best left to a ASE certified repair shop or the dealer .

1995 Buick Century dome light stays on what causes this?

make sure light switch is turned off the full left position, if light is still on you probably have a bad door switch

Interior lights

The interior dome lights are activated by the door switches, as well as the light control switch. It is possible to have a defective door switch , and that would not allow power thru the circuit. The fuse would be the logical starting point to check first, then the door switches next.

HELP! Interior lights (map and dome) dim but do not go out. Fuse removed.

There is a short between the dome light and the door switches, this can be caused by something as simple as water damage. check all the wires and switches before you think it is the BCM.

Dome light

thats because of the little black button in door jams on cars. when your door shuts it pushes the button in, when your door opens the light comes on.

When we open the doors, the interior light do NOT

Check the dome light, there is supposed to be a three-position switch; off, on constant and on when door opens...try that switch and see if the lights come on...if that doesn't work, check the bulb to see if it is burned out and if that doesn't work, check the fuse panel for a blown fuse...

Interior light is not on whrn doors open

Did you check the switch next to the interior light on the roof? Honda's have a switch position that turns off the dome light completely, so it won't work when the doors are opened or not shut tightly. There are 3 positions, dome light on all the time, dome light on only when door is opened, or ajar, and dome light off. I must say, I love Honda's, but I find this switch annoying!

Door open light switch problem

First check to see if voltage is actually going to the bulb at the "dome" light etc. when you open the door... Then check to see if you have proper ground at dome light.. If not check wiring harness to the switches at door usually located in the door jam area.... remove switcvh and inspect for missing wires that go to the dome light some times the dome light is connected to a switch on the dash check this first....basics always first, fuses and connections then fallow the wire as a last resort..
