1999 Hyundai elantra died while driving found ecu fuse blown replaced lasted half a mile and blew again

    found fuel pump inop have voltage and fuse is not blowing with pump unhooked will verify tomorrow the fuel pump is powered off ecu circuit, ran out of time leaving for work now thank you if the pump is powered by ecu circuit makes sense when it failed it blew fuse agree?

Check your o2 sensor harness. The harness if not properly secured will rub on the axle to a point where it rubs through the insulation of the wire & shorts on the axle causing the ECU fuse (20A) to blow. Repair the harness & replace the fuse & bada bing! You should be in business! Hope that works. IF NOT follow this K.I.S.S.

I found fuel pump drawing too much amps and overheating. ECU 20. amp fuse feeds 12 volts to ac,engine and fuel pump relays,also to ECM/PCM.Diagnosis:Check terminal at fuse for direct ground with key off. If you have a direct ground, start unplugging relays til ground signal goes away. Isolate circuit or wiring harness short to ground. If you have no direct ground at key off,check with key on and follow previous relay and harness checks. My final diagnosis relating to fuel pump is to access fuel pump connector under back seat and feel if wires getting hot to the touch prior to fuse blowing. Note it may be necessary to use a 25 amp fuse or 25 amp circuit breaker/fuse saver to complete this diagnosis.

You have to check the wiring loom... or what others would call the wiring harness. Worst case you need to have the engine rewired.

Well it's temping to put in biggfer fuses as the problem gets worse but the size of the fuses are to keep you from burning things up so you've from your probem with a 30 amp smoke test. The raditor fan wire is melted somewhere in the wire harnes to the wire for the trck lock or even key on circirts. the likly place to look is inside the stering collum. It takes the skills of removing the steering whel and the lcok plate and even then thats does'nt have to be where the problem is. You need to look under the dash after you remove the covers and use you nose to smeel for the burnt wiring and open up any thing the smells like it's been hot and anything the appers melted together. once a harness is found melted you need to seragete all the wires in the loom but don't cut the wires justy seaparte them. once you think you've got then all pulled apart so no bear wires touch each other or any meal parts put in the correct size fuses and see if you can connect the battery with out a spark. if you can you may then start checking to see what works and what does'nt.. This all sounds like too much work or too hard to do then you'll need to pay someone theat knows alot about car wiring problems to do it for you. I'll been doing this kind of work for the last 20 years and a'm alawys finding new things that are fried and burnt up. We all charge by the hour to do this work so the most experieced mechanic that works on cars like yours will probly find and fix the problem the fastest. therefore they may charge more per hour but their likly to get it right quicker and it'll stay fixed after they fix it.. This is the most likly kind of work to go sour after it's fixed cause they might miss a circuit that you use and they did'nt try. and as soon as it burns again it's back to the drawing board and if big fuses are use the fire can take the whole car.

Many cars have the cooling fan on a thermostat or time delay, to allow it to run for a short period of time after the engine turns off, to cool the engine off. You may have just never noticed it before. So I wouldn't worry about that.
Your real problem is the blowing fuses, apparently you have a short somewhere in your wiring. Putting in bigger and bigger fuses is a great way to set fire to your wiring harness. It's possible that the wire is pinched or chafed somewhere, and perhaps when you hit a bump just right, it touches and shorts.
You may have to take this to the Chevy dealer or a GOOD independent shop to have them chase it down. Unless someone out there knows exactly what this is, it could be a tough one to find.

I am having the exact same problem with my 2001 Hyundai Elantra. I was told that the engine code that comes up when the sensor is on is called "Absolute Pressure In The Manifold". I was told by a "Hyundai Specialist" that when that code comes up it usually means that the seal on the manifold is Fuct. When my mechanic checked that out for me he had noticed that my manifold had 4 cracks in it(can varify cause he showed me). He replaced the manifold and gasket. The car ran fine for about 2-3 days and since then the problem has since come back and my check engine light will no longer go on/off it only stays on. Because of the check engine light always staying on I have noticed that on many occasions my car will hiccup many times in a row. The only way to stop the hiccup I have noticed is to take my foot right of the gas for approx. 2-3 sec then car will continue without hiccup(till it happends all over again). All in all I have been having this problem now for approx. 1 year and if there is somehow someway it could be repaired I would appretiate it.

Whenever the 'CHECK ENGINE' (Service Engine Soon) light comes on, the ECU (Engine Control Unit) sets a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC). These codes identify the particular engine management system which caused the light to come on.
You'll need to use/find an OBDII (On-Board Diagnostic) Scanner to retrieve any code which have been stored in the ECU computer. Afterward, we might be able to help you DIAGNOSE the problem and perhaps eventually fix the problem.
Take/Tow your vehicle to an authorized Hyundai dealership and pay the diagnostic fee... they will tell you exactly what the problem is and the cost of parts/labor to fix it... at least this way you'll know what the problem is and what's required to fix it.Go to www.hmaservice.com and register( Vehicle by VIN). Afterward, you have access to shop manuals, service bulletins, wiring diagrams, etc. about your vehicle.

Blown ecu fuse


ECU= Electronic Control unit. This is what controls all the engine electronics. All the sensors on the engine and other things are routed through the part. What it does is tells the engine how to run. Each sensor plays a specific role. The ECU reads how much are the engine is getting, tells the engine how much gas it needs, etc. Try digging around a salvage and finding a new ECU. Swap it out, and if it is still blowing the ECU fuse then you need to start looking for shorts.

Hello Friend, If you checked all your fuses in the fuse panel box, maybe your stereo has an inline fuse that blew out. Sometimes there is a fuse in the back of stereo cabinet. remove from dash and check. Happy to help, Tim. Thanks

Try changing the fuel filter first we always change them when servicing the fuel pump anyway,its easy and cheap,if that doesnt solve the problem you will have to perform an amperage draw test on the fuel pump to insure your not replacing a good pump. Check the fuel pump relay and inertia switch and wiring also.Although possible its unlikley the fuel pump would blow a fuse consistantly without displaying any driveability problems.There may also be another component running off the fuel pump fuse have your mechanic pull a wiring diagram to find out.
