Question about 1991 Honda Accord

1 Answer

My 1991 honda acoord has miles on it. I recently replaced the throttle position sensor on it. The check engine light is blinking on and off on and off. The S light on the dash went off, but when and if I turn the air condition on it comes back on. I need to know is it an electrical problem or another sensor needs to be replaced?

Sounds like a sensor to me. It maybe could be an OE sensor (Oxigen Sensor).

Could the throttle position sensor cause a 91 accord to shut down

A faulty throttle position sensor can cause all kinds of drivability problems on all kinds of different vehicles. However, if I was driving a 1991 Honda Accord and the engine suddenly shut down like somebody turned the key off, the first thig I would do is check for spark at the spark plugs. If there was no spark, I would replace the distributor, since this is what causes this about 90% of the time on those vehicles.

I have a 1991 honda civic hatch with 1.5 engine idles fast cold and hot and ECU flashes twenty times

Hi Jason, I suggest you take the vehicle and have a diagnostic scan carried out. Doing that will pin point the problem area and take out the guess work. I have known occasions when someone has tried to adjust the throttle butterfly, hoping to reduce the idling speed and by doing that have taken the TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) out of the correct adjustment, causing abnormal idle speed. Regards John

Engine light on , surges, light blink codes..12, 24 and 55

12 means battery has been disconnected recently
24 is the one to concentrate on, which is showing a fault at TPS. (Throttle position sensor )
55 is end of message or codes.

I'd check and clean connector on TPS, if that doesn't help, replace TPS.

I believe the throttle position sensor is faulty. Is your check engine light on? You should have your engine codes read either way.

Assuming that this is a multi-port fuel injected engine. Is the check engine light on? If so, rent a scanner, read out the code(s), and pursue to repairs. Fuel pressure may be low--plugged fuel filter or worn out fuel pump. Exhaust system may be restricted somewhere. O2 sensor is getting tired. Throttle position sensor is about worn out. Several sensors in the intake system can affect performance, but should show up with the scanner test. Run a can of injector cleaner in the fuel tank

i think something is chokeing it either the air filter or the catalytic converter or it could be 1 of the intake sensors
