Underhood fuse 12 is the LCM (Lighting Control Module) fuse.

Many times the LCM chassis ground becomes corroded or loosens.

being a 2005 model, however leads me to believe a component controlled by the LCM has failed.

Most likely it is an onboard relay since you say it fails when the car moves.

Make sure all power options are OFF before starting the car... Window heaters, lights - everything, and re-try.

If you would like to see the schematics for the LCM - please use the "Continue with this expert" option so we are connected in the future.

One other thing to try is start the car normally, and tap the LCM housing and see if the car shuts down. This will give you a good indication the LCM is failed and needs replacement.

    ok....

#12 passenger compartment fuse is for ...

    Instrument Cluster, Anti-Theft, Ignition

    Switch, Ignition Coils.

And you are correct - the problem then lies in the PATS (Passive Anti Theft System) device. Most likely, the transponder in the key is bad - or the reciever.... however there are quite a few codes that the dealer can bring up quickly that the PATS reports, and the problem can be diagnosed rather quickly.

CLICK HERE to see the Servicing Guide for PATS. At the end of the guide - you will see all the possible fault codes - and only a Dealer's computer can read them... they cannot be obtained via OBDII computer.

Do you have a second key to try?

CLICK HERE if you determine the key is bad - to get instructions on how to marry a new one to your car.

Unfortunately - this is going to be a dealer only fix for you.

    Thanks again for using FixYa!!

Fuses are a safety device. they are made to blower when to much load is drawn over them. some component on the circuit is shorting out. if possible unplug all the items on that circuit. put in a new fuse, then reconnect component one at a time until the fuse blows again. a process of elimantion. it may take some time, but it will be expensive to take it to a dealership.
You are going to have to unplug every thing on this circuit, unless you have a short finder.

Hi,

Note :- Normally a fuse will fail because there is a short circuit that supplies 12-volts to the system. Check each of the components that are powered by that fuse

Regarding fuse diagram,

Go to this website
http://www.genuineservice.com/genuineservice/en/default?page=genuineService

Pick owner guide on the left task bar and input your vehicleinformation and pick get owner guide. Then pick owner guide 1stprinting and your fuse info begins on page 134

Any further help, let me know.

Thanks for using "Fixya".

hi,

if its a 3.8 v6 then check the EGR valve. the egr valve will get a hole in it an cause a huge vacuumn leak, and cause that. untill you take it in you can plug the vacuumn hose that goes to the EGR valve on the intake manifold, fix it soon.
