Question about 1998 Subaru Forester

1998 forester brake and battery light on, no power steering

The brake and battery light just came on for our 1998 Subaru Forester. At the same time, the power steering seemed to fail. It is a hot day and we had the air conditioning on (which we don't use very often) but it didn't stop when we turned the air conditioner off. Any ideas?

Forester 1998 Battery & brake light switch on

Check to see if your Alternator belt is still on.. If it's connected to your power steering it won't work and your battery will not charge. Also if you hear a whining noise in your engine replace the belt if it's there.

Hold light on console

The hold light is probably for a fault in the HILL HOLDER SYSTEM

This system holds the Forester on a hill without using the brake pedal, as long as you keep the clutch depressed. It's very useful when towing.

I will check my workshop manual as soon as I have some free time and try to get a definitive answer for you.

Andy, Derbyshire UK
