Question about 1996 Honda Civic

96 Civic power window, driver's side

My 96 Civic driver's side power window stop working one day. i checked fuses first and then looked for loose wires. while investigating i took off the door cover and looked at and managed to look at the electrical connections to the regulator/motor, of course all looked fine, except some wiring going to the regulator/motor which had some wiring harness(to protect the wires?), that harness had some water in it and it literally poured out water. i could only think that water shorted out the regulator or motor?

i did replace the main switches that control all other windows (i had no problem with the other windows, even before replacement) and still no luck with the drivers side window.

do you think the water in the wiring harness created a short in either the regulator or motor, which means replacement of either or?

the other question i have is HOW to remove the existing regulator and if needed motor? i have tried a number of times to remove the old so i can replace with new but i am having a heck of a time just figuring out how to get the components out

thanks you for your help

If you unplug the harness and run a couple of wires from a 12 volt battery you can test and see if your motor is bad. I worked in a junkyard for a few years and we had to test every motor/regulator that was sold.

Before replaceing check voltage from switch to regulator then to motor that will tell you which component is bad when you find that out look at the mounting styl off the failed component mos are held in with clips or rivets if they are riveted in you will have to drill them out

You need to see a wiring diagram to see how the ignition switch allows or sends power to that 30 amp fuse. The switch may turn on a relay (maybe the ignition relay) that sends power to the fuse panel. Or the run wire out of the switch may itself turn power on at the fuses. You may have a loose connection behind the fuse panel.
Get a test light, pull the fuse, and check for power at the fuse terminals, with key on. One terminal for the fuse should have power. If not, power is lost between the ignition switch and that fuse. If it does have power, and windows still don't work, check the wire from fuse panel to the master switch-loose or poor connections, maybe a partially broken wire. If it looks good, check the ground wire for the windows. The ground wire originates at the master switch and will go back into the cabin to a nearby ground, possibly behind the left kick panel. If still no help, someone may need a volt- ohmmeter to start checking continuity of wires, voltage drops, etc.

I have a 96 Explorer with keyless Alarm and the windows stop working can we fix it

if all windows stopped at once, it sounds like it could be a blown fuse. Fuse boxis on the drivers side, side of dashboard.pull it out to see if blown and replace with same amp number.you could also look in manual for info on fuse box.

Brake lights usually activated by a micro switch at back of brake pedal. Worth checking switch is working or no wires loose

One by one, all power windows stopped working in my 96 honda civic lx. How do you determine if it is a fuse, regulator???

If all the power windows stopped working it is most likely the fuse. There could be 2 fuses actually. One under the dash in the interior fuse panel and 1 under the hood in the fuse box normally located next to the battery or air filter box. Check all fuses and you should find the problem.

Driver side window not going up or down

It is most likely a wire that became disconnected at the switch, if neither windows work, it is likely a fuse.
