Question about 1986 Honda Civic

1 Answer

My 1986 honda civic wagon will crank but won't start.

My 1986 honda civic wagon won't start. The engine cranks, but won't fire. It first presented this problem almost a year ago, and after letting it sit for an hour or two, it started fine. This happened once or twice again over the last year. Recently it wouldn't start up again 5 or 6 minutes after parking it, and refused to start until the evening.  It was parked on a slope at first but it was parked on level ground when it finally started.  On the drive home, it quit again and would not start at all. The next day I was able to start it and drive it two blocks before it quit for good. Any ideas what the problem is or where I could start looking?

so , you answer all those questions there.
and get sensor
Crank sensor search there works
and can be different spot with different engine.

gen 7 car
K series engines began that year.

as you can see we;'d NEVER guess the engine. ever.
open hood (USA) look up see EPA sticker it TELLS which of above you have.
bingo?

why not post symptoms so we cans stop the guessing game.
why>?

I change the angine on my 07 honda civic and it wont crank

this could be a myriad of issues. go back through the wiring harness an check connections. also check timing belt to make sure valve timing is correct. there is a cam AND crank sensor on that car and if the timing is off one tooth itll cause ignition issues.

Engine won't start. a grinding sound but wont fire.

Are you saying the starter is grinding but the engine is not cranking, or the engine is cranking and making noise and not starting ?

My 2000 honda civic wont turn over and has no spark but the ignition coil and modual are both fine

Won't turn over? Do you mean the starter won't crank the engine over?

Or the engine cranks over and won't start, and you have tested for spark when cranking and have no spark? And then you have tested the coil and ignition module, and they tested out good? Am I on the right page here? If so, maybe the next thing to check would be the crank position sensor. The ecu (computer) signals the ignitor (ignition module) when to initiate spark after it digests the signals from the crank position sensor and the cam position sensor.

sounds like the distributor. over time the distributor could get debris and condensation inside it and cause it to act up here and there.

No start, just cranks, 1998 Honda Civic DX 168,000 miles

8 years is a fairly long time for a belt so I wouldn't take chances with it. You need to establish whether you have fuel and spark; removing a fuel line under the hood will check the first and the second you can check by removing any spark plug lead, sticking a screw driver into the the removed lead and placing it and inch or so from some grounded point of the engine. Each of these may require you turn on the ignition for some seconds and to check for spark, you will need an observer or someone to crank the engine. You should have a fat blue spark from the screwdriver shaft to whatever ground you are using.
Once you have established that both are present, then it is time to consider the crankshaft position sensor or if no spark, the coil pack.
If you have a friend 'in the business,' they will likely own a code reader/scanner which will give you some idea of what is missing.

Make sure your distruibutor rotor in turning while cranking engine, if it is timing belt ok, more then likely your not getting spark to spark plugs check your ignition coil, but more then likely it's going to be your ignition module.
