ok the service manual shows all this,
is the cluster showing errors of any kind on engine oil? is this it?
31year old truck, maybe the engine serial number shows age of the 454cu-inch is different.
the senders for oil goes to the main oil gallery of most engines
and most engine V ,is on side of engine and near the oil filter.
the oil sender on the new truck is a switch that toggles at 7psi
lamp on below, lamp off above. a super simple design. then.
this sender uses TAN wire color code
the service manual shows the classic test for it
remove tan wire, meter lamp fails (keyon)
same wire grounded meter lamp works.
GAUGE FUSE NOT BLOWN
ON OFF TO 454 LAND AND EVOLUTION 30YEARS
7.4liter new jargon
checked VIN yet to see if if has VIN code for 454"?
facts
(complex only due to vast cars/trucks vette's used on)
Big blocks have two(3) locations. The one above the oil filter casting (the one you used) and one just above the pan rail at the left front of the engine.
the wire test is super simple. (the acid test we say)
if the tan wire test fails the wire is cut the gauge is bad or the fuse to the cluster is blown.
if you ground the tan P pin on the cluster connnect and it fails
the cluster is bad , fuse good
that is all there is.
the same oil port on the engine we test it for pressure correct.
using 60psi pressure gauge, 1/8" connect NPT.
cold pressure can be 50psi. (oil pump pressure relieve valve spec)
