Gas hand not working - 1983 Dodge Ramcharger

Can you read any voltage at the gauge? If so, you have a faulty gauge.

the float in the gas tank is sticking, might want to have a shop do it cause you have to drop the whole gas tank to get to it

You may need a new gas sending unit.u have also witnesses where the sensing unit was simply unplugged, so start there.

GM has been having problems with the wiper on the gas sending unit in the tank. After years of use it wears through and only works once in a while. Unfortuneately you have to drop the tank to fix it. Fortuneately they have started selling just the replacement sending unit, you used to have to buy the fuel pump and all.

Varnish build up on the sensors in the gas tank. Try running some fuel system cleaner through the gas tank see if it helps. Otherwise just wait until the fuel pump goes out then have them replace the sensor while the tank is dropped.

Sounds like the sending unit in the gas tank is inaccurately sending voltage to the gas hand.

The fuel float has probably failed. It is located in the gas tank. The part is usually not expensive, but the installation is difficult, as it requires removing the gas tank.

Tank level sensor would be in the fuel tank and it would necessary to remove tank.

this is caused by a defective gas gauge sending unit, u must remove the gas tank to replace it.

ABS light on too? check fuse, and battery life.
