Question about 2003 Lincoln Navigator

1 Answer

2003 Lincoln Navigator back up sensor immediately and continuously beeps when vehicle is placed in reverse, even when there is nothing anywhere near the vehicle as it is backing up. Had Ford/Lincoln service department look at and they stated that the module is no longer working properly and would cost approximately $1,000 to fix. We asked if we could just have the sensor disabled. $1,000 seems like a large sum of money for something that is really not needed, as we seem to back up our other vehichles just fine without this sensor assistance. We were told if they would just disable the sensor that it would cause the check engine light to come on and stay on. Does anyone know if disableing the sensors really does produce a check engine light or are they just trying to get us to spend $1,000. Thanks for any assistance on this issue.

Check it for codes

You most likely have a couple bad COP Ignition Coils,
possibly a bad EGR Valve or TPS Sensor

All those are common ford & lincoln items

Change the oxygen sensors just before the exhaust converters
if you have 100,000 miles on it

Replace the Gas & Air Filter & clean MAF Sensor with CRC MAF

Install New Spark Plugs

All I suggested should have beeb done when you got it

My lincoln navigator has no power an shake alot

Since you mention nothing about trouble or warning lights, or about how long this has gone on, I would start with inspecting the air intake (has something been pulled up into it blocking the passage?, is the air filter completely plugged?), and then the fuel system, the fuel pump & filters, expecting the pump to be weak and near complete failure if you find no other valid reason for your vehicle to run this way.

The only other thing that doesn't trigger a warning light that I can think of is the exhaust system from the Catalytic Converter, and components behind it. If the converter is bad, the exhaust pipe behind it will rarely get hot as the converter is plugged.

You can eliminate the fuel pump issue by testing with a pressure tester. A heat sensor or just checking out the exhaust up close without getting burned will tell you if it's the exhaust system.

Beyond that, you'll need to start testing sensors.
Good luck !

..common problems of lincoln navigator

A Navigator, if you go by this web site alone,
has to be in the top 3 for the most problems

It appears to me that it is #1 as far as a dealer
being unable to fix much of anything

I found that as well from my neice & her navigator
& she goes to the same dealer I only used for
warrantee work & had I no problems. They never
even road tested hers & wouldn't address any drivability
issues until the 3 & 4th visit they billed the warrantee company
& her for

#1 Air Suspension --- get rid of it,install conventional
struts/shocks,strutmaster or other brands

The usual ford ignition coil problems, throttle body
motor, all those problems are on all fords for over
a decade & continue on.

Defective radiators & on & on

Check the web sites for govt recalls
& problems, on any & all vehicles your

Not pretty or easy to read, on some vehicles

03 lincoln aviator does not shift in reverse. all others gears are functional.....please help

If its automatic, you need a new transmission. Manual transmission, keep trying to switch gears and maybe it will slip into reverse. Or you could do what I do, don't pull into anywhere unless it's a slight hill that you can coast in Neutral backwards or have someone push you in Neutral.

2003 lincoln navigator reverse sensor no longer working, is this a fuse? the sensor use to work when backing up, now it just stopped working.

This is a very common problem and depending on the code, its very likely a radar sensor. It is located in the bumper cover.

The navi has leveling sensors on both axles that are switches and are adjustable. Most likely these are out of calibration. DO NOT attempt to move or adjust these with the vehicle on jack stands. Vehicle could shift and fall resulting in serious injury.
