Question about 1990 Toyota 4Runner

The engine chokes out and is hard to start.

When you press the accelerator it seems to get too much gas. You can smell it. it looses power if you press the accelerator and then dies. Then when you try to start it, crrrrrr crrrrr and it won't catch and fire up.

If it's an EFI engine, the smell of gas might be a couple of things....check fuel lines for broken or loose connections, a leaky fuel filter...another thing to check is the fuel vapor canister which holds vapors from the tank and throttle body....if the purge solenoid is not working for the canister then that will cause the filter in the canister to accumulate too much fuel and start leaking....so you might have an electrical problem with the purge solenoid....also check the EGR valve which will cause your engine to stumble and check all vacuum lines, especially the vacumm line going to the purge solenoid of the fuel vapor canister....the rest of your problem could be anything from timing chain to bad sensors. silvio

This might be an issue with the air fuel mixture. On a carb engine, adjust the fuel and air mixture by adjusting screws in the carb. For an EFI engine have the oxygen sensor checked out.

I have a 1985 oldsmobile toronado and i was driving it all day yesterday and now diz moroning im trying to start it and it wont start for nothing i pump the gas, spray carburetor cleaner on it and it

If it won't start, then pumping the gas and using carb cleaner may make it worse. Carb cleaner is not the same as starting fluid. It will make the engine harder to start. If it's flooded, then pumping the gas will only flood it more. If you need to de-flood, then press the accelerator pedal ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR and HOLD it there while cranking. Don't pump it.
Have you looked at the top of the carburetor while someone cranks the engine? Does the choke close when you press the accelerator for the first (and only) time? You state that you replaced the choke; do you mean the electric choke spring? Is it adjusted correctly? You need to know the choke setting for it to work properly.
Then again, it may have nothing to do with the choke. Do you have spark at the plugs? Have you checked the fuel filter?

My 2001 Chevy 1500 5.3 liter z71 has been giving problems accelerating if I press the gas softly it will slowly accelerate but after a while it will not climb hills and will sputter and bog ? I've replaced...

Sounds like the engine is being starved of fuel - most common cause is a failing fuel pump or a restriction in the fuel line, but could also be something else (like the fuel pressure regulator).

Have to push gas pedal to the floor for car to start. its an 89 gt mustang with the 5.0l. after it starts it runs fine, sometimes the engine light comes on when i get on it real hard. but there are no hard...

This would indicate a problem with the automatic choke. Putting the pedal to the floor creates the same effect as the choke when starting the car.

TPS throttle position sensor needs cleaning or replacment. or if you run the tank low on fuel you might be needing to replace fuel pump and filter.
