You may check the alternator but normally the battery light flashes in your dashboard if the alternator has an issue. You may want to check the wiring of the ground. Worst case, it could be a wiring issue in the loom. If it is a carb, you may want to check the idle control or the fuel air mixture, if it needs to be adjusted. Even a dirty fuel filter can be a culprit. If it is an EFI engine you may check on the vacuum lines and the Idle Air control valve.

the a/c belt or your a/c should'nt lock your motor as not to start or 'turn over' yout altenator may have went bad, or the battery may have went bad. the only way to know for sure is to have them tested. autozone or an advance auto parts checks both for free. suggest you remove the battery and take it to your choice of the 2 if the battery checks 'good' install it and drive the car to the nearest of the 2 and have the altenator checked for free. either one will not replace the altenator, but at least you will know what's bad. if it turns out to be the altenator, you can drive it with bad altenator w/lights off for about 10 your mechanic and he or she may be able to meet you at auto parts store and do the replacement there as i do myself. thank you for choosing and i look forward to assisting you in the future!

Try checking the altenator. If the starter and battery were gimpy, the altenator may have a blown regulator too!. It sounds like there is a short in the system causing this problem. Most likely the altenator or component in the charging loop. WF

Engine just cutting out even while driving

Sounds like misfire.
On this cars common problem is - intake manifold gasket goes bad creating big vacuum leak , what makes fuel mixture very lean and causing misfire and even stalling engine.
Usually gasket goes bad toward rear of the engine.
How to check :
Buy carburator cleaner spray .
Turn engine on and spray cleaner in to intake manifold gasket area , from begining to the end of it.
If engine start choking or picks up the idle speed - it is your problem. Choking indicates big vacuum leak ,
idle increase indicates small vacuum leak.

There is without a doubt an issue in your cars charging system. Depending on location there are a few cheap options. First of all I would get the battery charged back up to full power on a lower amp charge. Once charged, start the vehicle up and see if you have the battery light on. If you do, drive it an autozone and have them check the battery and charging system for free. More than likely it's your altenator. I would first check for fuses for the altenator either under hood or in cab. The owners manual will give a break down of fuse locations and what each fuse gives power too. let me know if you need farther assistance

well Marie the reason your vehicle is acting this way is because even though you put new battery in you still have to have a viable altenator to run the vehicle. the battery is only used to start the vehicle and run the radio and lights and other accessories. while the vehicle is running the altenator is not only suppose to charge the battery but it is suppose to supply the amprage to energize and coolapse the coil to give the vehicle spark. a bad altenator while driving doesn't charge the battery it drains it . a quick check is to have the vehicle running and then remove the positive battery cable if it dies you know it's the altenator.... please rate this and good luck keep me posted
