Question about 1996 Dodge Ram 1500 Club Cab

1 Answer

1996 ram backfire studder miss, but no codes.

I have a 1996 dodge ram 1500 with a 5.2 the vehicle backfires through the intake and stutters but never stalls out. when i stop at a light my rpm's drop to 200-400 rpm's but then it jumps up to 600-700 rpm's by itself.it backfires and stutters at mid throttle(steady throttle) at any mile per hour but when i accelerate hard it takes off fine and doesn't have any problems. i do not have a catalytic converter on my truck. so i know that's not the problem. the distributor has never been adjusted and/or had the bolts loose, however i have just done a recent tune-up (plugs, cap, wires, button etc.) i checked the compression about a month ago before i removed the cat. and everything was good at that time. i checked my spark plugs and they look like they are running lean. could this be a fuel pressure problem> my only concern with that is the backfiring

98 dodge ram 1500 the truck idles funny and spits and spudders and misses when you give it gas. if you put it in drive and give it gas it does not go anywhere it backfires out the exhaust and intake. But...

Code 1683 is for a problem with the EGR solenoid which controls the EGR valve, and code 597 is for the IAC valve not being able to keep idle speed at the correct setting.
A leaking EGR valve could cause the symptoms you describe.
I assume you looked at the cap and rotor and they are ok.

Check for burnt intake/exhaust valves. Sounds like you have one or more not sealing correctly. Could possibly be a worn out distributor as well.
