There is no fix for plastic tank radiators as the plastic gets brittle and cracks . Best advice is to get a new one

SOURCE: 1997 Camry 4 cylinder radiator is leaking fluid.

It depends if you have a plastic radiator than yes you were told correct there trash cant fix them.
If you have copper metal one they can be cleaned and repaired for under $100 if your on a budget than I suggest you purchase a good radiator on EBAY or at a wholesale parts place. It shouldnt cost more than $40 to $80 to install but shop around for the part they can get expensive good luck

You can convert to an off road unit made by several sources. Generally these units are all aluminum, work better than oem and are very reliable. Down-side to this is they are expensive ($500+ for most) Your other option is to get a scrapyard unit and even if you need to replace it, you usually can buy them at less than 1/4 the price of any new item.(just put one of those in a '93...cost $30.00) You may be able to find an aftermarket unit with metal tanks if you do some research as well.

Steam? are you talking about the oil cooler lines? thats the only metal lines I can think of on the left side of the radiator, but those would leak oil. if so there is a o-ring in the fitting that can be replaced. I'm just guessing thats what you are talikng about.

SOURCE: coolant leak --redoing my former question---!

I think you are trying to say that the plastic side tank is leaking. Likely on the seam where it joins the metal part of the radiator? I haven't seen too many sealers that work on those, but the old "standby" two tablespoons of black pepper (no kidding) sometimes will, unless the leak is a large one. There are some sealers on the market that claim they can plug just about any leak, but I have never tried them. (just too many)
The best way to do that repair is by changing the radiator, either with one from a scrapyard or new.
I used pepper in my own two years ago and am still waiting for it to begin leaking. (and heat works fine) Just make sure to drive five or ten miles after adding it or it will clump up and not help at all.

Good luck..

SOURCE: I need to flush and fill my radiator but cannot

There is no drain on the radiator, loosen lower hose to empty coolant. Metal pipes are the transmission fluid lines.
Coolant quantity for the 6 cyl is 14 qts, and 15.3 qts for the V8. If you have the extended wheelbase model, the quantity is 15.2 qts and 18 qts respectively.

How do I tell if thermostat is stuck or watertpump bad

Dear Connie,
This depends on the year, make, and model of your vehicle.
Some engines are installed longways to the car, some crossways. That matters.
A stuck thermostat will not leak water.
(It can, however, cause water to leak , sometimes violently!)
Thermostats are inside metal housings.
Water pumps can leak water, out the "weep" hose in the casting. Water spewing out of the engine could also be a cracked or burst radiator hose or heater hose.
On a few cars, mostly older ones, it can also be a leaking or burst "freeze plug", also called a "sand plug".
God bless your efforts.

Coolant leak

Hose ? The drain valve on the lower radiator ? The water pump has what's called a weep hole built into it. When the water pump fails water weeps out of that little hole to let you know it's bad. I think the ion probably has the water pump onth the front of the engine under the plastic cover ? ( not sure on that ) if it is the water will leak from behind that plastic cover making it look like its coming from the area where the oil pan and that plastic meet. It could get blown around by the cooling fan making it look a lot worse that it is. Check the lower hose and all the other coolant hoses for cracks or leaks as well as the entire radiator area ( sides, top, bottom ) check your rad cap when its cool and be sure the rubber seal on the inside of the cap is good and not cracked or dry rotted. If it is then when the water gets hot and pressure builds in the rad it will leak. When its cold it may not.

Can smell my radiator but not running hot also checked has plenty of fluid. engine light is on .

WATER PUMP HAS A BUILT IN "WEEP HOLE" AT BOTTOM OF PUMP. YOU NORMALLY SEE SMALL SPOTS OF ANTI-FREEZE, BUT IF IT IS DRIVEN OFF THE TIMING BELT IT IS BEHIND PLASTIC COVERS. LOOK AT LEFT(DRIVERS) SIDE...WHICH IS FRONT OF ENGINE FOR DRIPPING FROM LOWER TIMING BELT COVER.

My 1995 F250 is leaking radiator fluid under the engine behind the fan

Is antifreeze coming from "weep" hole in bottom of case under shaft nose?
is it coming from the heater hose (small hose coming of side and going into firewall to heater core inside engine compartment?
is it coming from bad gasket between pump and front case?

get a paper towel and dry these areas then start engine. when it starts leaking that will tell you if you need to change the water pump (gasket leak or weep hole shaftseal leak) or if you just need to replace/repair heater hose.

Loosing antifreeze and I can't find the leak oil is clean and exhaust looks OK not white smoke. Hvae a 91 Grand Marquis

check the carpet under the heater core in the interior. Check the radiator overflow bottle--sometimes they get a small crack at the bottom and weep out coolant. Check for any heater hose or other coolant hose clamp to be weeping coolant onto hot exhaust parts. The coolant will evaporate and you'll never see a puddle. The best time to check is just after engine shut down when coolant temp and pressure is highest.

TO FIX COOLANT LEAK.YOU HAVE TO LOCATE IT.BEST TIME FIND COOLANT LEAK WAIT UNTIL MORNING.ADD COOLANT UNTIL COOLANT LEVEL IN RADIATOR CORRECT. START THE ENGINE LET IDLE UNTIL START GETTING HOT.THEN TURN OFF ENGINE.COOLANT PRESSURE WILL PUSH COOLANT OUT WHERE LEAKS ARE.CHECK TOP RADIATOR HOSE AND BOTTOM RADIATOR HOSE.CHECK AROUND RADIATOR LOOK DOWN BELOW COOLANT FAN AREA BEHIND RADIATOR.LOOK FOR LEAKS AT RADIATOR CORES AND SIDE CONTAINERS.CHECK FOR COOLANT LEAKS AROUND WATER PUMP GASKET OR WEEP HOLE.CHECK FOR COOLANT LEAKS AROUND HEATER HOSES AND HEATER CORE.CHECK ENGINE CRANKCASE FOR COOLANT LEAKS.

Car overheated and lost all power. how do I get it to start?

ENGINE NOT GOING TO START IF GET TOO HOT FIRST THING I WOULD REPLACE THERMOSTAT AND RADIATOR PRESSURE CAP THEN ADD COOLANT UNTIL COOLANT LEVEL CORRECT THATS WHEN THERMOSTAT OPEN UP AND TOP HOSE HOT.CHECK FOR LEAKING RADIATOR HOSES CHECK TOP RADIATOR HOSE CHECK BOTTOM RADIATOR HOSE.CHECK FOR LEAKS AROUND THE RADIATOR LOOK DOWN BELOW COOLANTS FANS CHECK FOR LEAKS AT RADIATOR CORES OR LEAKS AT THE RADIATOR PLASTIC SIDE CONTAINERS. CHECK FOR LEAKS AT WATER PUMP WEEP HOLE AND CHECK FOR LEAKS AT THE HEATER HOSES AROUND ENGINE BLOCK TO THE HEATER CORE HOSES. THERE IS A REASON CAR OVERHEAT.IF CAR OVERHEAT WHILE DRIVING YOU HAVE FAULTY THERMOSTAT OR LEAKING OUT COOLANT OR BLOWN HEAD GASKET.IF ENGINE OVER HEAT WHILE SITTING DURING A LONG IDLING PERIOD.YOU COULD HAVE FAULTY COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR OR FAULTY COOLING FAN FUSE OR RELAY.HOT WIRE COOLANT TO SEE IF IT RUNS IF NO REPLACE FAN MOTOR. IF YES FAN MOTOR COULD HAVE FAULTY WIRE OR PCM FAILURE. CHECK ENGINE CRANKCASE IF OIL LOOKS LIKE MILK SHAKE ENGINE HEAD GASKET LEAKING.

My 1998 Chevy Silverado has coolant leaking from the radiator at the small metal fitting at the top drivers side of the rad. Is the a seal that can be replaced or does the entire rad need to be replaced?

There's not usually a seal for these, the metal is commonly molded into the plastic sides of the radiator.. Remove the radiator tube and inspect the plastic around the fitting for cracks. If you find cracks in the plastic, then you know your answer. If it's leaking from around the radiator hose you could try replacing the clamp with a hose clamp that you can tighten with a screw driver.

My guess is the plastic is cracked there, and the radiator needs replaced, but you should inspect it first of course.

Good luck

Leak undeneath upper radiator hose

Hi:
The radiator on your Focus is mostly plastic on the top and bottom, and the middle section is aluminum/ alloy. If you examine the radiator, and are sure it isn't leaking from the hose connection, then the radiator will need repaired. sometimes, small leaks in the middle , metal section are sealed just by using some radiator stop leak in your engine's coolant. A radiator shop can replace the top or bottom plastic piece on your radiator too, and often it is a good idea to check the price of an entire radiator at your local auto parts store, as sometimes you can buy a radiator for less than the cost to repair your old one.
