Question about Ford Ranger

1 Answer

1971 RANGER HAS NO POWER. MY RANGER PICKUP HAS 84000 MILES. IT STARTS RIGHT AWAY BUT AFTER IT IS DRIVEN A SHORT DISTANGE IT LOSES POWER. YOU CAN PUT IT INTO NEUTRAL AND PRESS THE ACCELERATOR BUT THE ENGINE RPM WILL NOT INCREASE. THE FUEL FILTER HAS BEEN CHANGED, A CAN OF INJECTOR CLEANER RUN THROUGH THE FUEL TANK.THE AIR FILTER IS CLEAN. A CAN OF BARS LEAK HAS BEEN RUN THROUGH THE COOLING SYSTEM BECAUSE OF A WATER LEAK INTO THE CYLINDERS.

THE SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM OF NO POWER WAS THE CATALIC CONVER BEING CLOGGED. THE POWER LOSS GOT WORSE AFTER THE CAN OF BARS LEAK WAS INSTALLED. SO FAR THE LEAK APPEARS TO HAVE STOPPED AS NO ANTIFREEZE HAS BEEN ADDED. THE CATALIC CONVERTER MAY BE THE SOLUTION TO OTHERS LOSS OF POWER PROBLEMS.

This usualy points that the water leak to the cylinder is not fixed. using another can of of bars leak will not help. the only advice i can b´give you right now is to get the cylinder head gasket fixed, before the cylinder head gets burnings, make a "few 100$" repair a 1000$ repair.

The radio has a permanent power wire to keep it's station memory. You are losing power on this for some reason. Possibly starter motor is shorting the battery. Possibly one of the big earth straps is corroded.

My 2002 Ford Ranger, 4.0 V-6, never starts on the first try. If I turn the switch off and try again it will start right up. It is a four-wheel drive with 167,000 miles on it and everything else work

Sounds like the fuel pump is not being primed when the ignition is switched on. Put a meter across the pump to check this. Turn the ignition on, but don't start: you should measure 12 volts across it for a few seconds. If not, then there is a failure on the fuel pump relay (probably) or worse, the ECU (in which case live with it, as they are an expensive item). Fuel pump relay is an easy swap out.

Efi fuse short in a 1993 sr5 pickup. put the fuse in and it'll start sometimes and then blow the fuse right away down the road or it'll just blow the fuse right when i turn it on...

may be the fuel pump short out.
unplug the fuel pump connector to see if the fuse still blow.
if the fuse is not blown when you try to start then the fuel pump is bad

My Chevy S10 will shut down, starts back up minutes later

Check if your wires are on TIGHTLY on the battery, if one loses a touch, your car will shut off. If you go over a tiny bump, or turn to one side or another, they could disconnect, causing your car to lose a + or a - cable connection. Which would very well make your car shut off. Also, check for any corrosion on the battery terminals. Good luck.

1984 Rabit loses power while going up an incline

Fuel pump and injectors are plugged. Any time a car sets with gas in it the gas separates and will varnish the fuel pump and injectors and possibly cause a fire just like a Vette I had to work on had the same problem. That means new fuel pump and filter and possibly injectors.
