Question about 1997 Chevrolet S-10 Pickup
Try Replacing the Oil Pressure Switch Described Below, It May Seem Silly But I Have Had Many times Replaced this On GM Vehicles Including My Own Car.
The fuel pump and engine oil pressure indicator switch is mounted in the engine block near the distributor. This Switch Provides A Ground when it Senses Oil Pressure, Sort of a SAFETY Switch so that It Will Not Start Without OIL FLOW < Saving your Engine from Server Damage.
ALSO Be Sure You Have at Least 5 Gallons of Fuel in Tank, I Have Gone Behind Mechanic's that Diagnosed car as Needing Fuel Pump, But they Were OUT OF GAS, They put TOO Much TRUST IN The FUEL GAGE.
I Hope this Sheds Some Light On Your Problem and You get it Figured Out.

The fuel pump relay is activated by the ECM, Check the fuel pump fuse and both ECM fuse on the fuse panel on the side of the dash. The ignition energizes the ECM which energizes the Fuel Pump relay which powers the fuel pump. Check the power for the fuel pump at the frame rails by the fuel tank. It's common for that area to get corroded and the wires break easy when the fuel pump has been replaced. That short section of wire harness is only $12.00 if need to be changed. If you have a few friends, you can remove the box from the frame since it's only being held by 6 blots so you don't have to drop the gas tank. The other thing you can try to do is to run a hot wire to the pump wire harness after you disconnect it so you don't loop the electrical and see if the pump works. Good luck and keep me posted.
