They wont replace it if your vehicle has over 70,000 miles on it. The cluster will then cost around $400.00. Try starting the vehicle then turning if off a couple of times and see if the needle moves. I got mine back to zero but it's still a little off.

Take your truck into a Chevy dealer. There is a special poicy for 2003 trucks with this problem. They will replace the ipc cluster for free.

Cars produced in Germany are electronically speed limited to about 150 mph. This is embedded in the software. If there are no other problems with the engine, fuel or transmission it is possible the management system has been remapped and the speed limiter has been reset to 120 mph.

We had this problem on our H2. Ends up that we had to buy a new instrument cluster. In the mean time we used the speed calibration on our GPS unit to say out of tickets. A year later we finally replaced the cluster. Check out the Hummer forums for best places to buy.

How to fix a speedometer cable

Well you know it does not have a speedo cable since you replaced the speed sensor in the transmission.
My guess would be a problem with the speedo or cluster.

I have a 2002 Oldsmobile Alero. I left it sitting in the cold for 2 days and when I tried to start it the battery was dead. Took the battery to get recharged and now the car starts, but the speedometer...

Hello Aubrey.

I have seen this happen before. Caused by a voltage surge mostly by hooking up the battery with the key on.

When you get your car up to a speed on the highway that is halfway on your speedometer it will come back around. You may need to get up to 70 or 80 MPH.

Watch you don't get a ticket!

Thank you for using FixYa.

My speedometer reading is way off and now is stuck at 220.

Sound's like your speed sensor from your transmission has gone bad, I am guessing you have a standard transmission?? Easy fix and can get the part's at most parts store or transmission shop. Good luck

1998 honda accord speedometer wrong

I I recently went to a government speed awareness workshop (naughty boy!) and asked why all the cars I have recently driven (Vaux Zafira, Vectra, Astra, Honda Accord, Peugeot 106) were indicating a higher speed than my sat-nav. The answer they gave was that car manufacturers will always do this to err on the side of caution for boot-heavy drivers or drivers who neglect to check tyre pressures, so that in a court case they have one less thing to worry about. All these cars indicated about 5-10% over.
