What tool or size allen wrench do I need to remove the oil filter tube that holds the oil cooler in place on my Ford 5.4 liter triton engine?

SOURCE: 2000 7.3 Liter diesel engine needing oil pan replacement

sadly I don't think there is. The oil pan is huge and sections of the frame are in the way of getting it in and out without damaging the pan severly. pulling that massive engine and replacing the pan, then putting the engine back in and reconnecting everything in 14 hours is a good estimate. sorry for the bad news

The only other thing you may be able to try is using an adjustable wrench with a shorter handle, these are a pain to get to no matter what you do, but sometimes the adjustable wrench trick will work. Hope this helps

Removal
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.

3. Remove engine air cleaner.

9. Raise vehicle on hoist.
10. Remove splash shield from lower radiator support and front sub-frame.

12. Remove oil transmission cooler line from oil cooler outlet fitting on radiator.
13. Remove retaining screws for power steering/transaxle oil cooler and position cooler aside.
14. Support fan shroud, radiator and A/C condenser core with a suitable jackstand. Remove lower radiator
support.
15. Position jackstand aside and carefully remove radiator and fan shroud.
16. Remove two retaining bolts for fan shroud at top of radiator and remove fan shroud from radiator.
17. Remove upper radiator hose from radiator.
NOTE: Loosen transmission oil cooler lines while securely holding radiator
connector with a back-up wrench.

RADIATOR
Removal

Win i start the car and look under the hood, there is oil coming out of a box that is, on the side of the block. But above the oil filter ?? . How do i fix that, is it a gasket or what ??


That is the engine oil cooler. There is a 'O' ring between it and the oil filter mount. They harden and crack.

Ask your dealer for the large Oil Cooler 'O' Ring.

Remove oil filter. Remove exposed pipe nut holding oil cooler to housing. If nessacary, drain coolant so you can disconnect coolant hoses from cooler or catch coolant as hoses disconnected. Swing oil cooler away and remove old 'O' ring.

Place new 'O' ring with grease on oil cooler it to hold it in place and reassemble. Tighten oil filter pipe nut to around 18 ft lbs .

Refit oil filter. Refit coolant hoses and top of oil and coolant.
Run engine to check for leaks and allow to cool. Top of coolant to COLD level if required.

You will need hose clamp pliers and wrench for oil cooler pipe nut. Pliers can be obtained from most parts stores.

How to remove radiator fan?


Hi. Here's the procedure if you are going to replace the radiator fan.

Things You'll Need:
  • New radiator
  • Container for old coolant
  • Set of socket wrenches
  • Ford disconnect tools or crescent wrenches
  • Flush treatment
  • Coolant
  • 1 Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent damage to any electrical parts. Open the drain **** on the lower rear of the radiator, remove the radiator cap and drain the coolant into an empty container. Remove the overflow tube from the radiator and the coolant recovery bottle.
  • 2 Unbolt the shroud with a 10 mm socket wrench and position it over the fan, out of the way. For a 5.0 liter engine on a 1991 through 2001 Explorer, also disconnect the electric fan wires and remove the radiator shroud. For a 4.6 liter SOHC engine, remove the A/C tubing from the retainer clips on top of the radiator.
  • 3 Use a Ford model specific disconnect tool to remove the transmission coolant lines on an automatic transmission. You can use two crescent wrenches as a substitute for the disconnect tool, just be careful not to twist the lines.
  • 4 Remove the four bolts holding the radiator in place with a 10 mm socket wrench. Place a piece of cardboard on the side of the radiator facing the engine as you remove it, to prevent damage to any engine components.
  • 5 Crawl under your Explorer and take the cooling fan out for 2002 and newer models. Again, you need some Ford specific disconnect tools to do this. Remove the fan bolts as well as the shroud, followed by the 4 radiator push pins. Also remove the A/C condenser brackets near the rear of the radiator, and wire the A/C condenser in place to keep it from getting damaged.
  • 6 Remove the radiator from the engine compartment. Models made between 1991 and 2001 will let you lift the radiator out by itself. For a 2002 or newer model, pull the radiator up, rest it on the wall of the engine compartment, and separate the A/C condenser from the radiator.
  • 7 Install the new radiator in the engine compartment. Once you have it resting in place, reattach all components in reverse order. Use a flush treatment, then replace the coolant. Turn the car on and let the car idle, with the heater on and the radiator cap removed, until it reaches normal operating temperature. Top off your coolant as needed.

    Need to remove the turbocharger from truck to replace oil cooler. Am unable to get it out. It is a 2003 ford 250 superduty tubo diesel 6.0 litre


    1 - Remove the turbocharger intake tube
    2 - Disconnect the charge air cooler inlet pipe
    3 - Remove the push pins on turbo cowl
    4 - Disconnect the turbo VGT solenoid
    5 - Remove the oil supply tube
    6 - Using the special tool, remove the oil feed tube
    7 - Remove clamp from the turbo down pipe
    8 - Remove the clamp from the turbo inlet
    9 - Loosen the exhaust inlet pipe-to-EGR cooler clamp
    10 - Loosen the RH & LH exhaust inlet pipe-to-exhaust manifold nuts
    11 - Remove the rear turbocharger mounting bolt
    12 - Remove the front mounting bolts
    13 - Position the turbocharger and remove the turbocharger drain tube
    14 - Remove the turbocharger

    If you cant do it with these instructions put down your wrench and take to a dealership for a professional to work on it

    Trying to find out how much oil the Triton V-10 takes when I do my oil change? I cant seem to find it or anyone who knows


    It should be listed in the owners manual, but because of different oil cooler setups you may have to do the change yourself and add oil until the correct level is established..... for the first oil change.
    Most likely 7 liters,but start with 5,run the engine to fill the oil filter,let it sit for 5 mins and recheck and fill to full.
    Note the amount needed for next time.

    Transmision oil for 2001 Audi A4 1.8 l turbo:
    Manual gearbox (5 speed):
    - Capacity = 2,25 liters
    - Specification: Gear oil SAE 75 W 90 (synthetic oil)
    Part number G 052 145 S2 (1 liter)
    - To check oil level, unscrew oil filler plug placed on the left side of the gearbox in front and near of transmission axle, using an Allen 17 mm key.
    - Check oil level with locally manufactured tool, e.g. a piece of angled wire.
    - Specification: oil level 7 mm below bottom edge of oil filler hole.
    - Install oil filler plug, tightening torque = 25 Nm.

    THIS IS a 1995 LINCOLN CONTINENTAL W/4.6L ENGINE
    iIBELIEVE TOWN CAR IS DIFFERENT LET ME KNOW IF SO AND PLEASE DONT FORGET TO RATE ME


    REMOVAL
    1. Disconnect battery ground cable (14301).
    2. Drain engine coolant.
    3. Remove engine air cleaner (ACL) (9600).
    4. Remove upper radiator hose (8260) from water bypass tube.
    5. Remove radiator overflow hose (8075) from radiator (8005) and fan shroud (8146). NOTE: Loosen transmission oil cooler lines while securely holding radiator connector with a back-up wrench.
    6. Remove transmission oil cooler line from oil cooler inlet fitting.
    7. Remove nuts retaining A/C condenser core to the radiator.
    8. Disconnect engine control sensor wiring (12A581) from the auxiliary electric cooling fan motors and the CCRM.
    9. Raise vehicle on hoist.
    10. Remove splash shield from lower radiator support (16138) and front sub-frame (5C 145).
    11. Remove lower radiator hose (8286) from radiator. NOTE: Loosen transmission oil cooler lines while securely holding radiator connector with a back-up wrench.
    12. Remove oil transmission cooler line from oil cooler outlet fitting on radiator.
    13. Remove retaining screws for power steering/transaxle oil cooler and position cooler aside.
    14. Support fan shroud, radiator and A/C condenser core (19712) with a suitable jackstand. Remove lower radiator support. Position jackstand aside and carefully remove radiator and fan shroud.
    1. Remove two retaining bolts for fan shroud at top of radiator and remove fan shroud from radiator.
    2. Remove upper radiator hose from radiator.
    INSTALLATION
    1. Follow removal procedure in reverse order.
    2. Tighten fan shroud bolts and A/C condenser core nuts to radiator to 3-5 Nm (27-44 inch lbs.) .
    3. Tighten lower radiator support bolts to 8-11 Nm (71-97 inch lbs.) .
    4. Tighten transmission oil cooler lines to fittings to 25-28 Nm (18-21 inch lbs.) .
    5. Tighten power steering/transaxle oil cooler and splash shield retaining screws securely.
    6. Refill engine coolant.

    Oil cooler seal


    There are two items that can be leaking oil there. There is a gasket between the oiler cooler flange (the item attached to the engine), and the rubber gasket/seal that goes between the cooler and the flange. (the latter is the one that leaks most often as most oil change shops over tighten the oil filter).
    I just replaced the gasket between the cooler and flange recently. I chose to do it quick and dirty: 1. remove oil filter 2. remove oil filter nipple (the portion you screw the filter onto) 2a. you'll need a deep well socket to get the bolt that holds the cooler tight (I believe 27mm)
    2b. pull down the cooler, Grab the nipple with a pair of pliers between the flange and cooler and loosen/remove
    3. remove old gasket/seal and clean surface 4. put new seal/gasket in place 5. re-seat the nipple back in. use the pliers method, just make sure you don't scar the threads where you NEED them( you don't need all of them). 6. put some gasket sealer (oil friendly) on the gasket and make sure its in place 7. tighten oil cooler onto flange with large nut and socket 8. replace oil filter and add oil as needed.
    it is a tight working area, expect some scrapped knuckles, but it isn't too difficult.
