Question about 2001 Porsche Boxster

1 Answer

I was wondering if you can help me with some information. I own a 99 Boxter which I purchased in 2002. In 2005, at 58,000 miles I had to replace the engine for unknown reason (2 weeks after the dealer performed one thousand dollar 60,000 maintenance check). The dealer refused to tell me the reason stating it would cost me a lot of money for them to find out. They put a rebuilt engine in my car at the cost of $10,000 with 2 year warranty. Due to many problems after the replacement, the dealer Since then I have not driven my car, have done on time oil and other maintenance and was told by my mechanic and confirmed through other mechanics that the 99 and 2000 Boxter engines have been major problems. About 3 weeks ago, while I was driving, the engine died on me again at a traffic light. After careful diagnosis, my mechanic is telling me that the head gasket has caused the engine to overheat, and now I need another engine. He firmly believes this is due to problems associated with 99/2000 Boxters. Can you help me with more info on these engines? Are these engines turned out to be lemons? I have spent more than $20,000 on this car for either an engine or other major problems, and I cannot afford to buy another engine now, nor another car. I would appreciate your help. Thanks Farima Farabash

Have 84k miles and am wondering when do I need to replace the spark plugs and wires, timing belt (replaced last at 45k) and any other preventative maintainace? Any information will be helpful. Thanks for...

Plugs and wires at 50,000 miles, the timing belt should last 100,000 miles. I am curious why the first one was replaced at 45,000? I am thinking you may have replaced the serpintine belt.
