Question about 2002 Dodge Durango

1 Answer

I have a 2002 Dodge Durango R/T with a 5.9 engine, I have had for a couple of years. In the last six months I have started tio notice a bump in the motor. It has gotten worse over the last couple of months. I took it to adealership and it had no engine code. The problem happens mostly between 1500 and 2000 RPM, it semms to cut out intermitantly and even has popped back a few times. It seems like it is much better below or above that rpm. I was going to take out the ignition module from the distributor and have it tested but unfortunately none of the parts stores check them anymore. It seems like it could be fuel or electrical. I don't want to just start changing things out, I am kind of baffled.

I would try new plugs and wires and fuel filter first and see if that helps

My 1998 dodge durango slt wont drive past 40 miles an hour

Hello Jeff Winner,

Over the last 20 years ... cars have has a LIMITED OPERATION FEATURE added... When the engine READS something that is not IMMEDIATELY catastrophic... it will allow you to
LIMP home... rather than a complete shut down.

Limp mode:
You SHOULD also have a CHECK ENGINE light... (?)

My best advice is to limp on down to your near-by FREE code reading shop... and have a READER tell you what CODES are registered...

A blocked exhaust system will also seriously SLOW your progress
((soon to stop all-together)).

Hope this helps

Check you exhaust prices BEFORE you go...!!

2002 Durango won't start change fuel pump, cramnkshaft sensor,

"No Bus" means something happened between the body computer and the engine computer. They are not connected to each other.
Usually a fuse, one of the computers, or the wiring harness in between.

I have a 2003 dodge durango, it has 119,000 miles and I noticed that when I stop at a signal light or just stop vehicle, sometimes it just cuts off. I purchased vehicle used.

Greetings:

What engine does your Durango have? Your tune up interval for spark plugs is every 30K. When was the last time that was done?

The 2003 was the last year of the Generation 1 Durango, and is considered the best of the 98-03 years.

Sounds like you are having a problem with your radiator not holding the pressure that it needs to so it overheats. I would say give your cooling system a thorough cleaning, if that doesnt solve it then a new radiator is in store.
