I have a 96 Dodge 1500 4x4. The fuel gauge works

I have a 96 Dodge 1500 4x4. The fuel gauge works if tank has just been topped off. After 50 miles or so, it swings to empty and the fuel light comes on even the tank is almost full. I just got a quote for $800 - $1000 to get a new fuel pump and sending unit.

If you have a decent auto wrecker near you, you can get the whole gas tank including the sending unit for 40 bucks. Then just change the whole tank.

I have a 2005 kia sorento lx and have been have problems with really poor fuel consumption. I'm losing about 80 miles to the tank. I had just changed the spark plugs and gotten a tune up

the fuel sender unit needs replacing as is reading lower than what is actually in tank from whay you've said so far, if your basing your MPG on the gauge reading it will be way out , best way to check MPG fill tank, drive for say 50 miles,, refill tank and see how much you have replaced, that will be your MPG

1995 dodge dakota, 4 cil. Fuel ind. Light no longer works. Can't find the right fuse. Not 13, 14 or 15. Fuel gauge doesn't work either. Now what? Gas math is 4 miles per dollar.

fuel gauge not working probably because the sending unit in the tank is not sending- next to go will be the fuel pump-fuel pump and sending unit are one thingy in your gas tank-cheers Denny

Fuel gage showing half a tank but trip computer only registering 60 miles left

Its very simple. If the gauge is showing half full then fill the tank and see how much fuel it takes. If the amount you add is approximately 50 percent of the fuel tank capacity then you know the fuel gauge is accurate . In that case the computer is giving an inaccurate reading and should be ignored. All you need is an accurate fuel gauge - it does not matter a row of beans what the computer says if the fuel gauge is reading correctly.

Fuel gauge stpos working

If it does it every time you fill up the tank I would say the problem is the sending unit in the tank.

worth checking the fuel tank for holes or there might be some fuel delivery pipes leaking badly. Or it might be an O2 sensor not giving correct signal to ecu thus consuming so much fuel.

Your gauge is reading high ... I think you are out of gas. You should calculate your actual Miles Per Gallon - find out what the capacity of your tank is and fill accordingly. For esample, you actually get 15 miles per gallon, your tank is 20 gallons - you should be able to drive about 300 miles between fillups. At 250 miles, start looking for a station.

Engine starves for fuel after running about 50 miles or so...

Has Neon do same, I ran fuel at low level, on hot day, ran engine until it started to act up & threw a fuel pressure gauge on it. Was at approx 5 psi. Cold next morning, 48-50 psi. Always hot day about 30-40 miles into work in morning, o.k. Sit in hot sun all day & would happen 3-4 times on way home. Sit and let cool, 20 minutes or so & go again for a while. Cool day, no problem. Change pump I would.
