Question about 2000 Jeep Wrangler

1 Answer

My clutch gave way, and then my shifter came loose in my hand

Driving down the road, my clutch stopped having pressure, and I had to pull the shifter a little harder. I didn't bulldog it, but the shifter felt like it broke in half. I don't know how to fix either of these problems.

The clutch you could probably do if you have a decent manual, some tools and time (patience optional) The shift may have broken where it fits into the shift rail. you may or may not be able to do that yourself, depending on what you find. If you don't have time and need the vehicle, have it professionally repaired.

One note...make sure that the clutch master, the line or the slave cylinder has not failed before tearing down to the clutch, though some slave units are part of the clutch throwout bearing and that means removing trans.

automatic -- check the harness connections have been connected properly
to just stop pulling indicates a torque converter clutch servo/solenoid problem and that indicates a wiring problem

Was driving down the road an went to shift gear an the cutch pedal just snapped to floor. foung a leak in line an fixed. but the peadl will just snap down upon engagement it is a hydralic system

YES IT IS. YOU NEED TO BLEED THE HYDRALIC SYSTEM DOWN AT THE SALVE CYLINDER THERE A BLEEDER VALVE YOU'LL NEED TO HAVE SOMEONE PUMP THE CLUTCH PADDLE ABOUT 10 TIMES ( MIGHT NEED TO PULL UP AND DOWN PADDLE WITH HAND AT 1st TILL IT START TO GET SOME PRESSURE ) HOLD PADDLE DOWN AND OPEN BLEEDER KEEP DOING TILL NO MORE AIR OR BUBBLES COME OUT.

Clutch and shifter

at this point you need to get a trans shop involved, the clutch is easy you need a new master and slave hydraulic clutch cylinders, the shifter will need to come apart to see what u have broken, most likely you broke a shift rail or the bottom of the shifter

Saturn shifter linkage

Check the cable clips at the trans. Sometimes these clips come out and won't shift. Horseshoe clips that hold the cable housing.

I've seen a similar issue on other transmissions where the shifter slips out of the slots in the shift forks, either due to shifter bushing wear or just general wear on tte trans. It can usually be remedied at least temporarily by popping the shifter top off the trans and resetting the forks all back to nuetral and then reinserting the shifter. It gets jammed when two forks are trying to engage two different gear sets.
On one of the 4x4 sites, they tell you how to replace the shifter bushings, cheap fix if you are lucky.
Good luck.
