Question about 2002 Dodge Grand Caravan

1 Answer

I am replacing the driver's side power window motor. The chilton's manual indicates that the new motor should be installed first and then the cable drum and cable guide removed and set on the new motor. Are there any special tricks associated with the cable drum / cable guide that I should be aware of prior to taking it off the old motor? Thank you in advance.

I was able to complete the installation, but with modifications. The essential part of the process is being careful with the removal of the existing motor and taking care to remove the regulator hub assembly without moving it or having the wires un-spool. The only other issue was the rubber gromments used during the factory installation of the window motor. The metal thread collar within the gromments fuses to the bolt making it nearly impossible to remove the fasterners. The trick is to cut the rubber grommet away and fabricate your own rubber-ized isolation fasteners. I was able to do this with some plumbing washers, new screws and fender plates held in place with nylock nuts. This was not too diffucult a project, just needed to excercise care.

I have a 2007 Ford F150 Lariat and my windows won't go up nor down. I've checked and changed out a few fuses and I've replaced the main power switch on the driver side door and I'm still not getting any...

pull off your door panel and unplug your window motor with a simple test light rock the switch back and forth like you would to raise and lower the window look to see if you are getting power to the motor if there is power present replace the motor it is shot, if you are not getting power to the motor then go to the switches best bet is to pick up a Chilton's manual on your vehicle. Chilton has good wiring diagrams anyway find the supply wire to your switches and test it with your test light. If you have power there but the power does not distribute threw the switch your switch is bad replace it if there is no power there look at the circuit in your Chilton's manual and see were your feeder wire comes from and if it has a relay and fuse in the circuit. If there is a fuse check it with your test light making sure you have power on both sides of the fuse if you don't replace it if you do look at the power window relay as your culprit and toss it and but a new one from ford don't buy cheap after market you get what you pay for buy cheap get more headaches if you are getting power you may have a bad ground wire.take your test light and hook it to the positive feeder wire and start checking your grounds your Chiltons manual will show you what colors the ground wires are most likely black with yellow or white stripe.if you have a bad ground wire replace the wire.If this is far above your tolerance level hit the yellow pages and look for a electrical auto shop who specializes in just electrical systems that will be your best bet

Is there a noise coming from the doors that aren't working? If there isn't, it's probably your switch, if there is a constant wrrrring noise, probably the motor. Each door usually has it's own electric motor, that could be the issue. If you know how to use an ohm meter, take off your door panel and check the motor per the specs in your manual. If you can track down a Chilton manual for your car, it will be of tremendous help. Chiltons have wiring diagrams in the back for all of the different systems of your car.

How do I install a new windows motor- to include the cable drum (drivers side). The old motor burned up and the cable broke. Thanks Hans

You'll need to buy a new motor and regulator. You can go used or new, it's up to you. The regulator will include the cable.

- Remove the interior door trim,
- Disconnect the power cable from the window motor,
- Remove the window bump-stops (one at the front, one back),
- Remove the glass window from the regulator (two bolts),
- Slide the glass window out of the top of the door,
- Remove 3 nuts from the window motor,
- Remove all window regulator bolts,
- Slide the motor & regulator assembly out the top of the door.

- Mount your new motor to your new regulator,
- Install the new motor & regulator assembly in the reverse order.
