Check engine light on 97 intrepid

Had car repaired by incompetent mechanics. Had timing belt and intake gasket replaced. When I got the car back it was overheating. Took it back to mechanic. They forgot to reconnect 3 vacuum tubes, reconnect fans, and bleed coolant system. No longer overheating but have a recurring check engine light. All codes indicated 5 different sensors were bad. Could this have anything to do with repairs made? hard to imagine 5 sensors going bad at once.

The diagnostic module has more than likely snagged those sensors and kept the info in memory for later diagnostis reading. All those sensors are related to the work done and the computer just needs a memory dump. Remove your negative battery post for 15 seconds . Good Luck

Yes, the Computer, on your car detects, all sensors . I, would recommend going to Auto Zone,
and have a Code Reader , recheck your car after
you disconnect negative battery cable, for at least 5 minutes, will wipe out memory and reset problem codes, after you start engine. You will start a new set of any problem codes.

P.S. Auto Zone, no charge for Code Reader, a Dealer will charge at least $ 75.00 for a 5 second read ! Not !!! get it read for free.

My husband has a 2004 Chrysler Intrepid. On June 21, 2011 the engine light came on and we took it took it to the garage . The mechanic replaced the intake gasket for a vaccum leak , well since then it...

Take it back and he will fix it, maybe a o-ring where the fuel line connects to the fuel rail or if he removed the injectors, then a o-ring maybe pinched, loose fuel line fitting. something minor, but dangerous, can catch fire real easy, I would have it towed to be safe.

I changed the belts on my 97 intrepid 3/3 ltr a couple weeks ago and it stated running rough and misfiring. Changed the plugs, wires and coil pack and it is now misfiring and stalling?

changing belts will not cause this problem.when changing the plugs did you check the plug gap or just assume the plugs were gapped properly.this could be one problem.did you change the wires one at a time or did you pull off multiple wires and change them, this could be another problem(wires not in proper location).you could have an intake gasket that is bad causing a vacume leak, which can cause miss fire.it could be a fuel injector problem(either electrical or fuel).is the check engine light on,this is a starting place have the code pulled.these i would check out.

My 97 intrepid is idle to hight

I'm guessing this Intrepid is a 3.5 cause I have never had this problem with a 3.3 But what I found what always caused it in a 3.5 is bad intake gaskets allowing more air to flow into the engine. Change both upper and lower intake gaskets and this should fix the problem. However when changing the lower intake gaskets there are two bolts that are probably gonna give you problems. The one closest to the front and the one closest to the back. They are the bolts that hold the intake down and go into the head near the coolant ports. These bolts are probably going to break off. The good news is they most of the time break off and there is still a lot of bolt left once you get the intake off to get a vice grips on. Have a torch with a good heating tip handy and someone that really knows how to use it and heat the cyl head around the bolt and then try to get it out with the vice grips, but be very careful cause heating aluminium can be very tricky too much heat and you ruined the head.

I have replaced all 4 ox senors before I replaced intake man. gaskets. It is a 97 chevy W/Truck with a V6 auto, auto trans. 2WD. now service engine soon light came on after about 200 miles, it will go off...

First did you clear all the fault codes after your repairs? The reason I ask is po131 is bank one oxygen sensor, po174 is engine lean from faulty oxygen sensor, and po171 is engine lean condition, possibly from vacuum leak (intake manifold gasket?), pcv valve, etc. To check for vacuum leak at intake, start engine and gently spray starting fluid around intake gasket. If rpm raise slightly while doing this then there is a vacuum leak(stay away from air filter intake and housing though), and the gasket will need to be replaced again.

2004 Intrepid 2.7l needs $1500 in repairs

Listen to your regular mechanic! These engines are a nightmare. If you can trade or sell this now while it is still running, you will be avoiding a downward spiral of very expensive problems.

Google: "chrysler sludge" and have a stiff drink handy.

Timing Belt and Intake and Exhaust Valves..

At least engine head must be removed for inspection and repair. When head removed you can estimate also if any damage on pistons top surface.

1997 subaru outback legacy overheating

I've had the same problem all year. I've had four different mechanics look at this car - 97 legacy with 2.5. I've had the coolant seals replaced, the radiator cap, the thermostat, the water pump - all to no avail. I've realized now that it only overheats shortly after running sustained high rpm's. Recently the last mechanic mentioned the bleeder valve (I didn't know it had one and think maybe he didn't know either - not a subaru mechanic). Recently it overheated again (again sustained high rpm's - apparently more prone to produce air in the system), I sat the vehicle on an incline (raising the bleeder valve to be the highest point) and let the car warm up and run for half an hour. Now 300 miles and no overheat. I went through alot with this car to get to this point. Unbelievable.
