Question about 2004 Hummer H2

Open Question

03'h2 engine surging

I have an o3' h2 during the winter it use to idle up and down only when i turned on the heater, would run just fine in neutral and drive, and sometimes it would idle just fine with the heater on for some reason, now it idles up and down and shuts off with the ac on, and it idles up and down and wants and does shut down in neutral, i am having problems with the air suspention system where the pump wouldn't turn off so i disconnected it, and the ignition sticks in the start position sometimes and i have to manually return it back to the right position, all help will be highly appreciated sir.

When I turn the switch I hear a single click and that is it. No engine turning over. While trying to start with key the headlights go out. Out of ideas, Will take to Chevy garage in am. Will post solution.

SOURCE: 2006 H3 Hummer AC/Heater Fan Motor

I brought my 2006 H3 in to the dealer for the same thing. My blower stopped working all together but it started as an intermittent problem. He said he had to replaced a diode or resistor either behind the switch on the dash that controls the fan or on the fan motor itself. Have not had a problem since but that was only about 4 months ago.

SOURCE: Hummer H2 engine won't turn over, key won't

Dead Battery? Bad starter motor?

Try pushing on the brake and making sure its all the way in park.

Turn the steering wheel back an forth a little to remove the key.

None of those work, Call triple A, find a shop.

Increase then decrease idle when engine is cold especially

cold engine idle surge. (problem)
RPM range of surge not stated
300-700 or 800 to 1500? (range is critical to diagnosis)

bad fuel
running summer fuel in winter (running old fuel?)
needs a tune up bad, see the list in the operator guide.
idle speed controller, sticking or EGR valve same. (clean them)
location not stated, so cant guess about local air temps.?
no other symptoms, lack of engine power? etc?
was it ok last week, or better, when was the last time it was OK?
1week, 1year?
surge , causes, on a tuned engine might be:
1: too lean. so lean the ISC can not control idle. rpm low, stalling
2: too rich, flooding, stalling, spark plugs foul (look at them)
3: weak compression in 1 or more cylinders.
4: bad spark.
5: air leaks, in the plenum causing , ISC to lose control.
why high RPM?

especially?
well that means it fails hot too.
and there is a simple tests. for hot surge.
is engine fully hot? 180F and holds solid there?
say rpm is about 800
and you turn on head lights, heater fan and (not AC) and defrost.
the RPM must hold or the ISC is failing.
ISC -= idle speed controls. (all EFI has this function)

There is no heat from heater at engine idle speed.

I have to believe that your thermostat is still sticking....replace it and you problem should go away. Relatively inexpensive fix.

Engine starts , and dies. Only when weather is cold.

hello there
I looks like your oxygen sensor,Try to disconnect and then see what the car does?Let me know. You may need to adjust the fuel mixure, seem it is running a little rich that is why the car in idle goes up and down.

Check your air intake if this is loose or getting to much air to make it run too lean it will cause the engine to hesitate or stall.
Also check the MAF Sensor on the air intake it could be going bad so it is an easy fix if this is the problem.
PS never use carb cleaner or wd40 to clean the air intake.. You can buy MAF Sensor cleaner at Auto Zone or Checker Auto Parts stores.
I hope this helps you a little bit.

Hard starting in cold weather; engine surges while idling, engine dies when you lift up on the accelerator, poor fuel mileage, sometimes it does not show the preceding problems but does most of the time.

Hi
Surging is usually a vacuum leak, look around to see if a vac hose was knocked loose during the sensor installation.
Start your car and let it idle.when it starts doing its "thing" turn the heater/ ac selector to off. However for further advice clean all the sensors free from soot, starting with the MAP sensor, then to the 02 sensor, and the idle adjustment valve. disconnect the battery prior to it so that no voltage spikes may damage the ECU.
check the ignition timing if it is set to the specified degree. Next, check the idle valve to make sure that the proper engine speed is reached while idling.Adjust the throttle cable settings to get rid off the slack. After doing so, the RPM should seem great. The engine should come to life and almost straight to the specified RPM.
For hard starting in cold weather.. Try using a winter oil (5W-xx or 10W-xx) and run a tank of super unleaded through it.
OR
run gas line antifreeze in tank if it's really cold, also if you have fuel injection it may be a faulty temp. sensor, if it's a carburated vehicle it could be the atomatic choke not working as it should, but yeah 5w30 oil is good for the cold season

1990 geo metro engine surges up and down when stopped..... prevous owner told me he turned the idle down. So, is the surging a direct result of idle adjustment or something else? ...and where is the idle...

hi sounds like your engine is surging due to incorrect mixture now your idle screw is on the thottle cable were it connects to the carb and the mixture screw is on the carb body as an approx guide turn the mixture screw fully in then out two and a half turns that should help but y may need to fine ajust later
