    Hi Molson02536, I received the 2001 block. I will be installing this weekend.
    The 2001 3.4L block has no secondary air injector pump tubes. I studied this, and the pump only works for initial startup and is controlled by the PCM/vacumn. I will eliminate it, but I do not know if the PCM will fault without it connected. What do you think? I might just hook the pump up, and not the vacumn or tubes. Thanks.

The engine is the same and should bolt right up to the transmission, the only thing is pay attention to the accessory mounts such as the location of the A/C and Alternator and power steering pump ect:
GM is know to make little changes to the accessory location between there brands. Good luck and hope this helps, keep me posted. Be glad to help if you have more questions.

    The PCM will set the check engine light, and you may have problems trying to get the car to pass the emission's test. The Air pump has alway's been a problem and known some people to eliminate it but they could not get the emission test sticker till they installed it back in. Check with your local emission inspection station in your area.

    It shouldn't be to hard to retrofit the air injector system to your new engine by transferring the exhaust manifold and a few other things.

    Keep me posted, and keep up the good work.

How can you tell what type of transmission is in my 1998 chevy malibu

Whether your Malibu is:
(a) 4 cylinder 2.4L SFI DOHC Vin "T", or
(b) 6 cylinder 3.1L SFI OHV Vin "M"

SFI = fuel injected
DOHC = dual overhead camshaft
OHV = overhead valves
Vin = 17-digit unique car identifier - the 8th digit identifies the engine (not the transmission), and
as you can see, your engine will be identified by the 8th digit = "T" or "M"

your car has the Chevrolet 4T40E automatic transmission (aka "automatic transaxle")
Here are some specifications:

    Where is the engine number located on a ford mustang engine 6cyl 2001?

    For 2001 Ford Mustang 3.8L SFI 6cyl engine, with which your specific vehicle is equipped, can be most easily identified by the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), located on either the VIN tag, mounted in the upper left-hand corner of the instrument panel, or on the vehicle certification label, located on the driver-s side door pillar. The engine identifying code is the 8th digit of the VIN. The engine VIN codes are as follows:

    FIG: Engine identification codes may also be found on a label affixed to the left side rocker arm cover

    4-3.8L SFI (OHV) engine N-4.0L SFI (SOHC) engine H-4.6L SFI (SOHC) engine V-4.6L SFI (DOHC) engine
    X-4.6L SFI (SOHC) engine
