Question about 1993 Jaguar XJ6

1 Answer

Check engine light on.

My 92 XJS V12 check engine light suddenly came on! The car has only 43K on the clock but if I slightly depress the accelerator I can get power, but if I floor it, it dies as if I'm losing one or more cylinders.
I hardly ever drive it as I treat it as a show car, (It's THAT good)

I'm wondering if I have some 'old' gas in it and it might be obstructing some injectors.
Help!
Dave.

Possible ,if the petrol is over 6mths old drain it and refill it ,do know that old petrol can cause different faults ,like high emmisions readings and in extreme cases they will not start

My 1991 XJS V12 has been sitting for 9 months low fuel, added fuel and tried starting, it turns over fine but does not fire, is there a way to check the fuel pump or if gas is getting to the engine?

first check for a spark thats more than likely ok. the most poss cause is the fuel pump. on the the fuel rail there is a pressure test point like a tire valve. connect a pressure test gauge and crank the engine you should get about 28 -36 psi if not the pump is more than likely stuck, try giving the fuel tank bang with your fist with someone cranking the engine remove spare wheel and trim board for access most likely the moisture in the remaining fuel has corroded the pump, good luck

Jaguar xjs 1995 v12 engine lack of power

I would start with a tune up, then isolate any symptoms other than lack of power if it persists, like rough idle, sputtering, jerking, engine trouble codes, etc.

How many miles will you get out of the v12 motor in a 1989 xjs? Im looking to buy one but it has 250000km on the clock

I would get complete set of maintenance records for that one. 250k is alot for a jag especially a V12. That one is either running on borrowed time or has been meticulously taken care of.

Driving at 70mph on cruse control, engine lost power and cut out. When engine had cooled down it restarted? Jaguar is 1984 XJS V12 5.3 Ltr HE 72000 miles on clock, any sugestions!

I have found that in most cases the ignition amplifier is the culprit. As it sits on top of the engine ( it's the square black box near the throttle } it is susceptable to heat damage. If you take it apart you will find it is a common module you can buy at a parts house. Can't remember what type but if you take it with you it can be matched.

No oil pressure what so ever in v12 jaguar

have you tried reversing the pipes and see if that makes any difference other than that there must be a pressure difference between the two pumps try priming the filter with oil before starting.

1989 jaguar xjs v12 fuel mixture

Chances are the coolant temperature sensor or its wiring have failed, or the vacuum line to the MAP sensor is leaky or broken (I believe the V12 in '89 guise uses MAP sensors). The MAP sensor measures Manifold Absolute Pressure. Along with this pressure the ECU looks at engine RPM. It also measures air temperature. Knowing pressure and temperature we know density, and knowing engine speed tells us how much volume of air is going through the engine. All of this together is computed into air mass and is used to calculate how much fuel mass should be admitted. If the vacuum line is broken, the ECU reads less vacuum and produces rich mixture thinking that the engine is under high load.
