If you removed the timing belt, then its probably out of sync. the sound is probably the piston hitting the valves. its a good practice to turn the engine manually 2X after assembly before starting. sad to say if im right the valves are bent by now

Bad oil pump

If the engine is not making loud valve train sounds or rod knocking sounds, consider changing the oil pressure sender.

Lost oil pressure in a 1999 540i and timing chain noise

from the book the oil pump is driven by a chain from the crankshaft. It is very possible that the oil pump has come loose and thrown/broken the pump chain. It will require a sump removal to check it out. recheck the oil level as what you read may have been a froth level . there is no reason for extra oil unless it was overfilled to start with or there is water contamination ( white /grey oil)

Think my oil pump going the light come on an rattling started then i got oil changed an added lucus it doing the same thing how hard is it yo get the oil pump out

Get the oil pressure tested....
If you hear rattling, it's probably low oil pressure, but it could be the pump, or if your bearings in the engine are worn badly, that will cause it also. (From antifreeze mixing with oil)

Loud rattling / buzzing noise from engine when cold not seconday air pump or air valve as already replaced.Timing belt, water pump and aux pullies all checked and ok.The colder the weather the louder the...

If the rattling changes with the revs of the engine, it might be that the valve compensators are either worn or not getting enough lubrication. 20V engines have quite small oil passages travelling to the head. They tend to clog up with gunk if the oil change is not frequent enough.

Engine rattle noise

Have you checked your oil? Sounds like you may have run it way low, the loud metallic noise is probably metal on metal contact inside your engine, add oil and it that fixes it, count yourself lucky, if not need to take it to a shop.

Oil light

it may just be time to change your oil pump.. start your engine and lift your hood.. do you hear a tapping type sound? the impeller inside your pump may be work and thus taking alotl longer then normal to build the proper pressure... if this is true.. get changed ASAP... if it fails it could cause your engine to blow..

Fiat brava loud tappet

Depending in the mileage, sometimes the crankshaft bearings were out lowering the oil pressure. including an additive or one grade heavier oil could solve the tappets clicking. Also check the connections to the fuel injectors and the gas pressure to the injectors.
