2005 chrysler 300 3.5l head gasket install

Could I have installed the gaskets backward and if so what would be the result?

When I look at the old gaskets I see the restricted and blocked ports are not the same left and right. I do not remember installing the new gaskets left and right. Anybody know the result of doing this? I seem to be running hotter than it used to.

If all of the holes are not lined up, you could have restrictions in the cooling and oil jackets between the head and block.

Everything lined up but after installed I realized the gaskets may be right and left. Also it is a 2005 3.5l.

Some of the ports look either restricted or blocked.

Well if you ask an auto parts store, they will tell you there are separate part numbers for left and right.

Head gaskets don't cause overheating Usually they are a result of overheating. If the headgasket is bad one wil get leaking into the cylinders of coolant, which wil show up as milky oil.Like some one else stated ; have the radiator rodded out,(cleaned and fluashed).

sc1232ip, I think that this is definitely a head gasket problem. When the coolant boils out of the everflow bottle it is because combustion gases are getting by the gasket and heating the coolant faster than the radiator can cool it down and this is the easiet place for it to escape. Also the code po300 for a Chrysler is for a misfire detected. One of your cylinders are getting oil or coolant into them causing this. You didn't mention what color your exhaust fumes were. Are they white (coolant) and have a sweet odor to them or do they have a blue tint to them (oil). Another possibility is a crack cylinder head. Good luck with this.

Hello, have changed both head gaskets on 2002 Vulcan, no oil leaks before, but now 2x heads are dripping oil, have torqued heads to 40ft pds, but still leaking.

40 ft. lbs. doesn't seem tight enough but I have a hunch the gaskets are upside down, backwards or both. If you saved the old gaskets you'll need to remove a head in order compare the gasket to make sure it's the correct one then look to see if the oil passage is not blocked by the gasket, occasionally the hole isn't punched in the gasket or if it's incorrectly installed the opening is in the wrong place. I hope this helps. Take care.

How to change and replace valve cover gaskets in a 2004 Chrysler Sebring Convertible 2.7L DOHC V6

You first have to remove the ignition coils or plug wires and then remove the bolts holding the cover to the cylinder head. Discard old gasket. Clean gasket channel of any oil and install new gasket to cover taking care during assembly not to disturb gasket when placing cover back on cylinder head. The rear gasket is much harder to change as the upper plenum must be removed to access this cover. You should have some knowledge of engines if you are going to atempt this repair on your own

Can you put head gaskets on back to front

it is very possible to install head gaskets backwards. if installed incorretly you will block oil and water passages .the oil hole is not very large so you will want to make sure they are not clogged by the gasket material

I just completed a head gasket R&R on a 2005 Suzuki Forenza and I now find I have water in all four cylinders what could be the cause of this after getting it back together I tried starting it and

I also recently replaced a head gasket. There are multiple things to look at when re installing your head all of which are going to require you to tear apart your car again. First did coolant spill into your combustion chambers as you removed the head ? (this would happen if you didn't drain the cooling system before you started)If coolant did spill in it should burn out quickly and then function normally. If not something went wrong as you installed your head and new head gasket and here are some possible causes.
1. Did you get your head machined so it isn't warped or did you replace it along with your head gasket. If not you need to 9/10 cars that blow a head gasket is because the head gets warped
2. Did you install the head gasket correctly. Its very easy to either put your head gasket upside down backwards either of which will cause massive amounts of coolant to go into the cylinders or leakage on to the ground.
3. Did you torque your head bolts to the torque recommended by the manufacturer if you have a repair manual it will say in there. Also it's recommended to replace the head bolts which may also be necessary.
It should be one of these or a combination of these issues also it is po

Head was done nu gasket, oil, plugs a week ago by mechnic on my 2000 cirrus now has heating porblem

the head gasket has specific coolant passages in it to allow for proper flow of the engine coolant between the engine block and the head. Was the reason for the head gasket repalcement due to overheating concerns? If you have had no problem until now then I would venture to say the mechanic installed the head gasket on reversed and thus your problem
Hope this helps
