Color wire ! Blue an gray are to the PCM - engine computer ,red is power to the alternator from fuse F1.10 - 10 amp. in the under hood fuse box . The heavier gage wire on the back of the alternator has an inline 175 amp fuse ,an should show B+ voltage . There is no orange wire , red ! may be faded . Explain voltage out of three pin alternator . The heavier gage wire on the back of the alternator goes to the battery an carries charging current to battery an electrical system .
While you did not post make, model or year it could be a inline fuse on the small red wire coming off the battery, you would feel a spongy section in the wire not far off the battery and if blown would be melted a bit. I know of no fuse in the fuse box for an alternator.
open circuit in the vehicle blown fuse bad wire poor connections follow wires from qalternator to battery check if good as well computer sometimes controls the voltage so check output at alternator then battery if different well time to search
It doesn't have a fuse per say. There is a large gray wire on the starter solenoid that acts as the fuse protection. That wire goes to the main junction box where it connects to the black-orange wire going to the alternator.
The problem could also be in the circuit with the battery light or gauge on the dash.
The red wire coming off the alternator goes to the battery cable. There is no fuse per say, the wire is designed to melt if the amp draw is too high. The engine computer controls alternator output.
the cable /fuse to alternator has nothing to do with the start and run function if the battery is charged up and in good condition ,sounds like the main battery cables have a bad contact/connection or battery is shot<follow battery cables and remove all points of connection in engine bay area clean contacts with sandpaper and resecure all connections 1 AT A TIME! to make sure none are swapped around by mistake ) on both earth cable/negative and the positive/power cables, make sure terminals on battery are clean and tight , try boosting/jump starting your battery with jumper cables connected from another cars battery positive to positive .........negative to negative and see if it starts ,i doubt the problem of starting up is the alternator unless battery is flat and not being charged by alternator ,by jump starting with another baterry will give you the answer once all baterry cables and connections are clean and secure
Get a wiring diagram free at Autozone.com by registering your truck on their site. It sounds like a fuse or Relay is broken, perhaps the fusible link inline to your battery. Manufacturers sometimes put fuses in the system to protect the Alternator. Check if all the wires and plug-ins that were taken off when replacing the Alternator, were reconnected.
the fuse box under the hood is known as the (BJB) that is where you will find fuse for your alternator location number for the fuse is F1.10 it is a 1amp fuse, there is another fuse which is an inline fuse, most likely the one your looking for 175amp location it does not specify, but red wire comes from the battery to the starter motor, from the starter motor to the alternator, the inline fuse is in the wire from the starter to alternator, there is n location for it, but easiest way is to check for voltage at the alternator, as inline fuse will be close to there, so if your there, just check at alternator for voltage sorry it is not located in fuse box and the fuse for alternator in fuse box control the light on your dash
CHECK ALTERNATOR 175 AMP MEGA FUSE. AND CHECK ALTERNATOR 20 AMP INLINE FUSE.IF FUSES OKAY.REPLACE BATTERY CABLES AND CHECK ALTERNATOR BATTERY FEED WIRE AND VOLTAGE REGULATOR WIRES FOR DAMAGE.AND CHECK DRIVE TENSION.MAKE SURE DRIVE BELT NOT DAMAGE OR SLIPPING.
I see two or three, the schematic shows two in series coming of the wire from the battery junction box to the back of the alternator and a third coming off the second wire,it's a tough call because schematics even factory schematics aren't always right but either way follow the wiring from the back of the alternator, and you should find them.
