Question about 2001 Volkswagen new Passat

EBC 2001 VW Passat

How do you reset the EPC without a OBD tool? My wife pulled the neg battery cable for about 20mins and it still won't start. She is stuck at work about 30 minutes away and it is now 3am. Can't get a tool until the morning and would rather not have her spend the night. Thanks!

If warning lamp does not go out:

  • Switch ignition off.
  • Remove instrument cluster:
  • Connect test box to control module wiring harness.
  • Check wire connection between test box socket 48 and instrument cluster for short circuit to Ground (GND) according to wiring diagram.
  • Erase DTC memory of Engine Control Module (ECM). Generate readiness code. If no malfunctions are detected in wire from Engine Control Module (ECM) to warning lamp:
  • Replace Motronic Engine Control Module -J220-.

What i "think" is broken flex plate.

the only way to check the flex plate without pulling the trans is if you have diagnostic tools like a meter with scope capability to check crank waveform to the cam waveform to see if its out of sink. if you don`t you will have to pull the trans and visually inspect the flex plate.

Reset the abs warning light ?

all anwers USA< other cars are DIFFERENT> 96 CAD usa.
it auto resets at every keyon.
get the FSM and read the ABS chapter. it tells you that and that it needs a special scan tool to find all issues.
if frisky pull the battery neg, lug, wait 5min,, or turn on head lights and foot brake if in hurry,, I never am.
and put back the neg lug. this will make the ABS start virgin.

why not post the symptoms. my light is on, why>/
1: brakes are bad. do a brake job.
2: scan the ABS see the errors. and the tests.

my nice Innova scan tool 3160 does not do 96
1997 -2005, cad
see chart, there is NO ONE scan tool for ABS that does all cars.
under $10000 .
my tool does most OBD2 PCMs. but not ABS or bags for many cars.
but does have a nice set of coverage.

How do I reset the check engine light on a 2003 nissan pathfinder

You need a scan tool that works for that model 1996 and up are OBD 2 systems. Before 96 you could disconnect the neg battery cable for 5 min. and it would clear the light. You might get autozone or kragen to turn it off for free if you have them check for codes ask then if they will reset the light.

How to reset the airbag light? I recently fixed my steering wheel with an airbag in it and the airbag light won't turn off.

always use care when dealing with an air bag,, remove the neg battery terminal,, then the positive, wait 10 minutes for the system to reset , the trick here is hooking it back up, before you do that ,, check all the connections again , make sure they are all tight and aligned,, if so,, Hook up the Positive cable first ,, then the neg one , the light should have cleared, if by chance it doesn't,, your going to have to go to someplace with a OBD code checker,, Lots of places do this for free, so shop around,, and have them clear the code, if it shows up after that , something in the system is wrong, and you'll need to check that before proceeding

I have a 1997 dodge caravan changed battery and now all the led lights on climate controll console flash ie rear wiper,ac vent, this goes on for 20mins then stops everything works fine then after i i turn...

Try resetting the system again by taking the negative cable from the battery, and them depressing brake pedal for 30-45 seconds.

Reconnect neg cable and see if it still does this.

Almost sounds like the HVAC system is stuck in test mode.

What does it mean when the epc light comes on in my 2001 volkswagon bettle

EPC means Electronic Power Control (aka; Drive by wire) it means there is no throttle cable, it's all electronic. It can be illuminated by any error that has to do with this system. Use an OBD II tool or VAG-COM cable to check the error codes.

94 buick centry dose not take refrigerant also ac clutch dose not engage but i can spin it by hand?????

If your compressor shut down, it's probably due to lack of refrigerant. GM's have a safety feature built in to their compressors, if their is not enough refrigerant to power the compressor, it will shut down and require a reset. (disconnect neg battery cable for 20mins). Once the compressor has shut itself down, it won't accept more refrigerant until it has been reset.

The ingnition won`t start, how dow I by pass the EPC and start, the car was running fine but started not switching, when turning the key nothing happens, what is the EPC for? and how do I fix it with out...

Your EPC stands for "Electronic Power Control" and without it (bypassing it, as you stated), you will not be going anywhere in your car. The car MUST have the EPC on/enabled to run, as I have been told. The VW Passat does not have a throttle cable... it is controlled electronically. The EPC light means something is wrong in the drive-by-wire path, the "gas pedal" potentiometers or the electric motor-controlled throttle body, etc. You will need to take it to a mechanic/repair shop that is knowledgable in foreign automobiles (especially VW's) and has the appropriate tools and equipment to read any "codes" being kicked out by the computer.

I have a 2001 New Passat with the EPC light coming on randomly and it will idle high but next time I start the car it goes away. I think you will have to take it in to the dealer.
