Engin but no acceleration

Your engine probably has an automatic choke device that adjusts automatically with engine temperature. To set the choke when the engine is cold you have to depress the accelerator to the floor and release it completely. You shouldn't have to depress the accelerator again to start the engine, turn the key the engine should start. As the engine begins to warm up it will also begin to initially run faster then it will start to run rough. At this point you have to press the accelerator and release it again. The auto choke mechanism should allow the choke butterfly to open. There may be a number of stops in the system and the choke butterfly will stop again still not fully open and only become fully open when the engine is at operating temperature. I have a 1997 ford E 150 customize mark 3 van have driven back and forth to work 5 years ran great Christmas Day drove down to the garage and back up to house and now it will not start turns over has spark will not fire

will need the engine model number.... also what do you mean will not accelerate but running perfect ? has the engine become limited i.e only revs to 2000 or so. ???

indicates an idle control sensor or other throttle / accelerator sensors

Try changing the fuel filter. If it clogs up the engine won't get the fuel it needs to run at wide throttle openings, the engine will ****** the timing, and you'll lose power. With less throttle the filter can flow well enough for the engine to run properly.

That sounds like a bad tourqe converter.

Could also be fuel filter or coil pack.

OK. Most automotive shops will test CHECK ENG LITE for abolutely free. Once you have the code, this may be the cause of your woes. Start there and you will not be guessing.

Are you loosing power to the ecu when the car is shut down? most cars with an ECU that controls timing, fuel, or boost can be forced to relearn the car if the ECU looses power (called a "limp" mode). I'd look into this. Also are you getting any check engine lights? considering the description of the problem, this would help to diagnose. Try getting the car started and running normally, then turn the car off but do not kill the power to the car, just stop the motor from running...Fire the engine back up and try to give the car a good stomp on the gas and see if you get the same sluggish problems...my 2 cents...
