Saturn airbag light stays on

I just replaced the ignition switch on my 1997 Saturn SC1 and removed the steering wheel in the process. Now the airbag light is on. Is this normal? Is there something I need to do to reset the light?

Not much fun. You have to take the steering wheel and airbag loose, then remove some bolts with round heads to get to the switch.

I need the light switch fixed and I was wondering is it hard to changer out myself

it is not easy, you have to disable the airbag, remove the steering wheel, replace the multifunction switch and reinstall. there is at least one video of this process on www.youtube.com. you will have to rent a steering wheel puller.

My key is stuck in the ignition of my 1997 saturn SL can turn neither the steering wheel or my kets what can I do

I had this problem when my 97 sc1 was first given to me. It turned out to be in the automatic trans shifter anti theft switch. I just removed center console and disarmed it. try slamming shifter into park and see if it makes a difference, don't forget to push in on the key a little before turning.

Deployed air bags

My daughter has a "99 Saturn SC1, and she hit a curb and deployed hers. I (Many years as a mechanic) replaced both bags, the computer which is located under the center console, and the "clock spring" located behind the steering wheel to get it all working. (No air bag light on while driving) The steering wheel airbag melted the clock spring when it fired. I purchased these all used on E-Bay.

How to remove steering column to replace light switch and blinkers

I think you would be better off to remove the steering wheel than the whole column. With the steering wheel and column trim removed you can replace the switch. It requires a special puller and some expertise as I think you have an airbag in the steering wheel. You do not want to set off or disable the airbag.

I would avoid a dealer as they will charge you more than the value of the car to replace this part. Get a replacement switch cheap used on ebay or expensive new on saturnparts.net, call around to some repair shops ang get referred to a shop which does a lot of electrical work, then take your car there for the service.

Replace ignition switch and kew switch

***As per Haynes Manual for your Vehicle*** Warning: if your vehicle is equipped with a suplemental inflatable restraint (SIR) system, always disengage airbags before working in the vicinity of the sterring wheel to avoid accidental deployment of airbags.
1. disconnect the negative cable at the battery
2. Remove the steering wheel if it interferes with the access to the steering column covers on your vehicle. Remove the steering column covers.
3. Unplug the wires from the ignition switch, remove bolts and lift the switch off the steering column.
4. Installation os the reverse of removal.

Hope this Helps! I have a an illustration and it looks that the switch is on the left side of the steering column. If you need any information or help removing the Steering wheel or steering column covers let me know! Good Luck.

Airbag light staying on

to reset the light it needs to go on a diagnostic machine this could have been caused when the ignition switch was replaced if the steering wheel was removed if this is the case there will be a fault stored for the drivers airbag or when the seat was removed if this is the case there will be a fault stored for a pretensioner and or side airbag make sure no plugs have been left undone under the seat
