Question about 2006 Kia Optima
I own a 2006 Kia Optima and recently the battery was drained because I did not shut the trunk properley after replacing tail light bulbs. AAA came over to replace the battery and although the car starts fine, the battery light will not go out and I can not get it out of park. I have tried just switching the ignition onto electrical and waiting 10 minutes, I disconnected the negative battery cable, replacing it, then again switching it onto electrical and waiting 10 minutes all to no avail. Is there anything else i can do??? Please help !!
This may seem like a silly solution but it's worth a try if it gets you out of this jam. I believe the Kia has a safety feature where it won't let you shift the car out of park unless the break peddle is fully depressed. Try stomping on the break peddle while you start the car. Then see if it will let you shift out of park. If this doesn't work try pumping the break peddle a few times and try it again. If this doesn't work check the fuse box. Maybe the fuse for the actuator in the gear shift lever that lets you take it out of park is burnt out. I hope this helps you out.
