Fuel pump is not working

My son came home, got out of the Kia, and came in the house... I went back out to go to the store, and Kia would not start...Found out that fuel pump was not working...I've replaced the fuel pump, but it still does not work...I've checked all my fuses and relays and they are good...I bypass all fuse and relays with a test wire to the fuel pump, and the fuel pump did work then...But will not work when ignition switch is turned on with key....Whatever part you tell me to check, please tell me where the part can be found.....

For future reference, I have the same promblem that this guy had and did everything that this guy did, however I fixed it myself and these are the step I did First of all there is a fuel pump shut of button located under the left side of your hood next to the fender near your radiator resevoir, there is a black button there, and maybe it might be tripped and all you need to do is press on it if it is tripped. You can also refer to this in your owners manual. If that doesn't work you will have to bypass in your diagnosis connection located under your hood towards the upper right side. Short the fuel pump and the battery connectors in the diagnosis connection to see if you can hear your fuel pump turning on. You can have someone open the fuel door have them listen to it in this process to see if a noise is heard. If the fuel pump is heard turning on, then it is not the fuel pump. Other then that, buy some fuel starting and shoot some ( as directed with the fuel starter) throught the intake and then turn on the engine, if engine starts and dies a few second later, then it could be the mass air flow sensor that is located in the intake which that was the promblem for me, so i replaced it and bam.... it starts. Now if the engine didn't start when you spray some fuel starter fluid into the intake and all it did was crank and crank, Then most likely it would be your ignition coils, which is located with your right engine spark plug wires if I remember correctly.

The fuel pump should be on a seperate circuit. its own. I haven't had the privilkage of working on a KIA but look unser the hood for a secondary fuse box, usually a covered box. The higher current fuses are usually on their little moon. Good luck

Sounds like you have damaged the fuel tank mounted fuel pickup pump. The pump is cooled and lubricated by the fuel it is immersed in, so when you lost all the fuel you likely ruined the pump.

More than likely it's fuel related, so try this...

It could be a fuel issue. How old is the fuel filter? Can you hear the pump run for a few seconds when you turn the key on? Try turning the key to ON without trying to start engine three times waiting for the pump to stop running each time. Then try to start the engine. If it starts, Its a form of Vapor lock caused by the extreme heat we have had lately, and a weak fuel pump.

If none of this works, try a new fuel filter first. From there have someone check the fuel pressure regulator and then the pump. If you are in need of a new pump, take my word for it and spend the money to get one from a Dealer, and not from your favorite parts store. Most parts store parts are made in China and they are JUNK. At least get a OE pump.

As the problem started when your son had a look at the fuses, I'd suggest you check them yourself. Make sure they're good and in the correct slots.

Start with the simple and replace the fuel filter. The fuel filter should be replaced every 15,000 miles or once a year to ensure the fuel system is running 100%. Auto Zone will have the fuel filter and can give you the step by step instructions to getting the job done with common tools. If it's the fuel pump failure, you have not gotten the car restarted. Good luck and keep me posted, be glad to know you got your car running 100% again soon and please rate.

How to replace fuel pump on 200? Kia Sportage.

I would advise you to go to a mechanic to fix it, but if you dont want that option. Go to a auto parts store and find a complete teardown manual for your vechicle. It will give you the instructions you need, but when you pull the fuel pump out it will most likely break you fuel level guage. It can to done if you want to avoid the guage problem replace the gas tank. This general a guide to removing the fuel pump. 1Disconnect the battery cables.2 You will mostly likely to have to jack up you suv to remove the tank. 3 Mostly likely you will have to remove a wheel or possibly move to get the tank out.4 Make sure you label the in and out lines for the fuel pump. If you mess that up it wiil be bad. Usually the tank is held by some sort of hanging system. Just varies car to car. When you get the tank off BE VERY CAREFUL it can cause an explosion. You will have to remove the retaining ring from the top of the gas tank. Like said danngrous and remove all the gas from your tank before you do anything. When you get the ring off the fuel pump will come out. I suggest gloves it gets messy at this part. Remove the fuel lines. Take the fuel pump out its housing put the new fuel pump in the old housing and replace the fuel strainer. Your gas tank may need cleaning. I forget what you need to do that with, but its easy to findout the chemical. After you put the fuel pump back in its just a process fo reverse of everything you did.
