I GUESS ONE CAN CALL IT BLUEISH. CAR GIVES THE CLOUD OF IT AND THEN GOES TO NORMAL.DEFINITELY NOT THE DENSE WHITE LIKE WHEN GASKET BLOWES.

I agree with the valve guide seals, but I wonder what color was the smoke? Black, white, or blue?

Your issue would be bad "valve stem seals". They are hard rubber seals that wrap around the valve to seal out oil, and prevent it from going into you cylinders. When they get old and worn out, they will allow oil to seep into the cylinders.

Blue smoke is generally gas. I only have the option to post solution, but if it's fuel injected (I assume that new it is) then you may have a O ring or a seal in the injection unit that is letting gas leak by. Too much gas = blue smoke, so it is running rich. If it is a n injector it can be a pain and expensive to fix, if by a miracle that thing has a carb (I doubt it) you can adjust the mixture down. I'd take it and have the code reads, maybe a fuel sensor is going bad, it may read and tell you which injector is leaking, not holding proper vacuum pressure. Most auto parts stores can run the codes the for free. I'd check that, the good news is they can run a long time like that so you can take time and figure out when, how, and if your fix it. Don't much much about Saabs in general but hopefully ths points you in the right direction. This is common among fuel injected vehicles as they get older, not bad problem if the car runs fine, but can kill you on emission testing (if you have to pass them). The reason it stops smoking is either 1. It lets fuel drip past and you burn it while starting the car and it comes out in the puff of blue smoke, 2. It seals itself under pressure, so when you shut it off it leaks and you get puff on a cold start or 3. It is leaking fulltime but with the exhaust being pushed out there is enough exhaust mixing with you that you can't notice it while driving. Good luck with it!

2004 dodge neon and white smoke

You probably have a bad head gasket.
To verify this see if the coolant is milky or if there is oil in the coolant reservoir. If so you need a new head gasket . If not you have an oil leak into the combustion chamber.

Approx cost for head gasket w/head cut approx $1500 to$ 2000.

If it turns out to be an oil leak into combustion chamber I really can't project . Need to know whats leaking and why.
Good luck

Car won't start when it's cold

Depending on the type of car engine you have, any of these three causes of car start-up failure during ambient cold temperatures may apply to your situation:
http://yourhandymanzone.com/Your_Handyman_Zone_How_To_Pages_Vehicle_Car_Zone_Cars_Trucks_Vans_Engine_System_Engine_Quits_When_Cold.htm

And here are the causes of cloud of smoke:
http://yourhandymanzone.com/Your_Handyman_Zone_How_To_Pages_Vehicle_Car_Zone_Cars_Trucks_Vans_Emission_System_Black_Smoke_Exhaust_Exits_Tailpipe.htm
Likely, your cause of smoke has to do with the air control or fuel regulator, as either of these is somewhat responsible for your initial start-up difficulties.

Hope this helps! Brad

Replace The Throttle Positioning Sensor...When you put Accelerator to the floor ... It rolls the Position Sensor Cam to tell computer etc to put Injectors Etc..into cold start mode...as soon as the motor fires..injectors take over and do their job..The Black smoke is the Extra Gas Put it cylinders to Purge it in a cold Start Mode...Throttle Positioning Sensor..and Yes You Can do It.!!! 2004 GMC Sierra 1500 blows a cloud of smoke only at startup

If it's the org. engine it will has over 60,000 miles on it.
It's normal to has the valve stem seal/oil seal on the head to leak oil into the cyclinder.

The smoke you see is the motor oil drop from the valve stem seals.

It land on the top of the cyclinders and it create black smoke at start up.

The inexpensive fix is to start using high mileage oil with seal conditioner.
This will help soften the rubber seals and help reduce internal oil leak.

The correct fix is to wait until it's time for a head gasket replacement and let the professional service the head.

Complete head service is the only method to stop this internal oil drip problem.
