Question about 2001 Dodge Dakota
My 2001 daokda quad cab shifed into 4 hi on its own while i was driving down the road i quikly put the transmition in nueutral stoped and then shifted the t-case to 4 hi and then back to 2 wd and took off it did it again after about 45 miles now its stuck in 4 hi when i try to shift it the t-case motor sounds like it shifts to 2 wd and then right back to 4 hi Same as the other guy, but mine is a 2005 and it shifts erratically from 4HI to 2HI and even tries to shift into 4LO (but I guess there's a safety feature that won't let it). Took it to Dodge 3 times. Cost me $2100 to fix... and it still isn't fixed.
The fork Inside the transfercase is broken for sure change the fork it could also be bend try this good luck my friend

Most common problem is the vacuum diaphragm that is so inconviently mounted UNDER the battery tray. The cable that locks in the front diff is attached to it and vacuum pulls it in/out.

vacuum leak or vacuum locker solenoid problem. a great way to check for both is to remove both vacuum lines from the solenoid (located on firewall above destributor), and put a connector between them, push the button on the dash and see if it locks in.
