Question about 1996 Toyota Land Cruiser
When I turn the key, all I hear is the clicking sound. Battery appears to be okay, had it checked a month ago by Sears. A jumpstart doesn't work either.
Sounds like the starter is shot. However, Check ALL the battery terminals and check the terminals on the starter they can get grimmy and dirty also chech the battery earth connection to the engine and the chassis. And what was checked ?? was it just the battery or was the charging system checked ??

You may have a faulty starter remove and have it serviced

It's the starter. You can probably get it started by finding a long steel rod, or a long garden rake stick(with the rake removed)...get under the hood, find the starter, and tap hard on the starter while someone in the truck is trying to start it. I mean really bang on the starter! It should start, but you will have to change the starter eventually.
Give it a try.

Check the battery terminals... they can get a layer of corrosion between the terminal and the battery post. Get your hands on a battery terminal cleaner... it has a brush for the inside surface of the battery cable terminal and a brush for the battery terminal post.... clean them both...make sure they're dry and reconnect.... then jumping will have a good connection and the battery shouldn't click ... that is if the battery is still good... how many years has the battery been in the car?
