Hi, I purchased a f250 and the problem is the automatic transmission will go in reverse but not forward. Is there something that can be done without rebuilding the whole transmission.Something to check?

Check fluid level. Truck must be running and up to normal temp when you check the dipstick. If it is full, then you should replace the transmission filter. It is on the very bottom of the transmission. The fluid will have to be drained to change out the filter, so keep it clean if you want to reuse it. Youtube has several "how to" videos on changing it or cleaning it.

If it is an automatic which I assume it sounds as if the servo engaging the band inside the transmission has failed. Did it go all at once? Any odor of burning fluid?

The fact that it was used for a snow plowing should have sent a red flag to mind, but it seems to be transmission related. My bet is the clutch seal are hard since when you do a lot of plowing and aren't aware of how to take caution with an automotic transmission it is easy to heat them up and this cause a lot of internal damage. You shouldn't have any trouble getting a good trany at a junk yard that would be the cheaper route.

I WAS PLOWING SNOW TODAY WITH MY 1990 F250 7.3 DIESEL AND THE TRANSMISSION QUIT WONT MOVE FOREWARD OR REVERSE WILL MOVE SOME AT 4000 RPM. LOTS OF FLUID NO BURNT SMELL IN THE FLUID

Only thing reverse and forward have in common are torque converter splines and pump. Is the fluid level high? This could mean pump and or converter has failed.

1995 f350 E4OD transmission has no reverse

if it has no reverse this is a dead give away the reverse clutch is defective inside the transmission, in order to replace this clutch assembly u will need to remove and overhaul the automatic transmission, have been a Ford dealer tech for decades, know this for 100% sure.

I have a 2001 ford f250 powerstroke diesel was driving and transmision started to slip drove about 3 miles and now wont move forward at all but reverse works fine

Some of the Ford transmissions actually have an aluminum gear which will go out somewhere around 150 to 200 thousand miles. OR it could be really low on transmission fluid.

1999 F250 only goes in reverse, no forward gears.

I believe that reverse is operated by a brake band. So it seems to be stuck. It is operated by a piston, and the seal could have swelled and caused too much friction. But you could loosen up the adjustor so that it is disengaged, in order to get forward gears again. Perhaps you can force the piston to retract as well, once you drop the pan again.
