Gasket = $35 (permatex rubber)
Labor - my manual says 3 hours.
You'll have to be responsible for figuring out the labor price per hour depending on where you are located.
In MI, a garage is about $50/hr, and dealership = $85/hr
CA might be $95/$150/hr.

Parts are minimal on the job - its all labor.
Figure in about $20 for shop supplies... gasket remover, sealant, rags, etc.

The dealer can give you book time and parts estimate. Go from there if you go to an independent mechanic.

How do I remove and re install the CPI unit and gaskets on a 1998 Chevy Blazer with Vortec V6

You have to reove the upper plenum. that is the part on top of the intake that looks like a dome on top of the lower intake. There is 8 10mm bolts around the outside of the dome part. the disconnect the fuel lines at back of lower intake and remove the cpi unit.

Oil Pan Gasket Replacement/ Oil Pan removal

yes the starter does have to be removed but also the engine mounts must be also as the engine must be raised about 10 " to get the pan out. if you do try this make sure you have very very sturdy jack stands for the engine to just a jack as the jack will lift it but wont maintain it long enough to safely remove the pan and reinstall it......good luck and be very carefull

What is the cost of the most severe oil leak?

Hi, Depends on where the oil is coming from. From a repair standpoint, valve cover and oil pan gaskets can be replaced at home for less than $100. If you have a leaking head gasket, you probably wont want to tackle that job and can cost upwards of $600 to replace, more like $1000+ for both on a V6 or V8. Depends on where you live and the mechanic's rates. If the leak is not real bad, cheaper to keep a quart of oil handy.......Mike

2.8l v6 in a s10 blazer. no head gasket problems thus far. wondering why my oil pressure gauge fluxuates? minor rpm change while oil pres guage does its thing why?

Oil pressure always changes with rpm.
At idle you should have around 10 psi, and it should max out at high rpm around 50 psi or so.
You not only can't have as much pressure at idle, but you don't need it either.

Oil pump

If it's a 2wd model, remove the engine mount bolts and raise engine enough so you can put a 4x4 between the engine and frame mounts. Remove the oil pan and unbolt the oil pump and drop right out. If it's 4wd, you'll have to remove the engine and basically do the same thing.
