2005 GMC Yukon oil pressure extremely high.

2005 GMC Yukon Oil pressure shot up way past 80 almost to 4-5 o'clock position. I changed out the sensor on the top of the motor and it didn't do anything to the oil pressure gauge on the dashboard. Any suggestions

You may have to pull the oil pressure regulator to clean out the relief valve / plunger. Some times it is accessible from the side of the block and with others the pan has to come off as it is a part of the oil pump.

GMC Vehicles are notourious for that particular issue, it's not a huge issue, however the repair can only be done by a licenced mechanic and it usually costs about 550$ canadian.

Possible dsmsge from driving weeks with high oil pressure? btw 2004 GMC Yukon XL Denali

No damage will occur. Have you checked the oil pressure with a manual test gage? If not do that and please understand GM oil pressure gages are prone to reading high pressure when the sender is defective.

Oil pressure gauge goes to 80 and stays

Another gauge needs to be connected to the car to check that oil pressure sensor or the gauge itself is not the problem.

If an independent gauge shows the same readings I would suspect a sticking oil pressure relief valve.

Yes, most likely it is a defective oil pressure sending unit. However, oil pressure is something you do not want to take chances with. Have it checked with a manual gauge to determine the problem as soon as possible to avoid possible major engine failure. I hope this helps.

Check oil presure light is coming on... why?

Either it's low on oil, it's way past due for an oil change, faulty pressure sensor or you really have a problem with the oil pump. You should have this checked ASAP engine damage could happen real fast.
