Question about 1999 Oldsmobile Intrigue

1 Answer

Gas gauge stuck on post

I have a 1999 Old Intrigue and just replaced the alternator. I started by unhooking the neg cable then changed the alternator. After the replacement was completed and the neg post was re-attached everything was fine except now the gas needle (gas gauge) is stuck behind the post above the full mark. What did I do wrong and more importantly can I fix it. Thanks Shep

I had this problem also... take a small drill bit and drill into the plastic face part... take a small hook and pull it back over :)

My car won't stay running when I unhook the

Most alternators are not designed for that much current load. That was a practice that was used several years ago as a test.. but its really ******* alternators and wiring. Leave the battery connected and use a voltmeter to check while the car is running. Set the volt meter on 20 volts or so on the DC setting. Put positive to positive on the battery and neg to neg.. You should see 13.5 volts or above if your alternator is working properly.. Hope this helps..

Charge problem

Sounds like the alternator/voltage regulator. Take the car to an autoparts store and have them test the alternator output. Most parts stores will test the alternator for free. There is a definite charging problem if it has killed two batteries. Sorry for your trouble and I hope this helped. Best wishes.
