Question about 1997 Ford Escort
I have a ford fiesta 1.4i 16valve zetec, the car loses revs and trys to cut out when ticking over, the revs then start to bounce. i have change the airflow meter and had all the sensors checked on a diagnosics machine and they cant find a fault. ford fiesta 1997 car stall when comming to a stop it is ok on tick over but when rev the engine comes to a stall when revs come down
The butterfly in the air intake becomes all gummed up round the edges and seat, the sticking gives the erratic tick over and stall on run down to stopping.

The battery could be slightly weak, making the computer go on the fritz,
try a fresh battery!!!!
The rev counters bounce often with a weak battery.
Leave feedback good or bad.

SOURCE: ford tick over problem
A few more things to check for you.-
A vacuum leak in any of the vacuum hoses will cause the ECU to make random guesses at what's going on.
Have you replaced plugs recently - or at all? This is probably the main cause - and certainly worth a try.
Fuel filter should be replaced at recommended intervals - about 3 years.
Clean your leads and HT gear really well with a degreasant. Any losses will be more noticable at tickover than high revs.
Lastly.........wear on cam lobes or timing belt.
Hope it's cheap for you!
Please spare a moment to rate as fixya! if any of this information proves useful. Thanks (I don't get paid for this)
