Question about 1998 Plymouth Neon

1 Answer

I have a 98 plymouth neon (DHOC) that runs hot.

I had the radiator flushed and the thermostat changed and it still runs hot. The hoses are fine, but it runs hot within about 5 minutes of me driving it. Before I got the radiator flushed and the thermostat changed, I could keep water in it and it would not run hot. What could be wrong?

Take rad cap off when cool & run it for a while with the heater on (not defrost) and top up coolant as needed in rad, about an inch or 2 from top of rad. Let it run until you see rad fan come on & off about 2 or 3 times at operating temperature. Then replace cap, top up return bottle to proper level, and try that. Probably still air in system. If that doesn't cure it, I'd look at faulty or incorrectly installed thermostat, which would be a trip to shop that installed it, if it were me.

If you flushed the coolant with the thermostat in, chances are you didn't flush the coolant. Regardless, it's easiest to check the controls inside first. Does the blower fan work? Does the air flow change from floor to vent, to dash as it's supposed to? Does the A/C change temps when knob is turned from cold to hot? Post results.

2002 dodge neon running VERY HOT ... what to do next?

Have you verified that system has been "burped" of air? That the fans kick on? Check radiator hoses for kinks. You can try running without the thermostat to see if that helps and can identify if the thermostat could be a problem. You may need to check your coolant mixture too.
Sounds like you have reduced flow or restriction in cooling (heat exchanger) as it runs fine at cooler temp but can't keep up when it gets warm.
New parts don't always equal working fine parts.

Running hot?

2 possible things. 1st(cheapest) you have air in cooling system. Need to burp it. 2nd(expensive) you may have blown head gasket. I tend to think air is in cooling system and your level is low.

My 1995 Plymouth Neon will run fine as long as it's cool. But as soon as the temp outside comes up, it shuts off & will restart within a few minutes. If you do this very many times,, it just...

if car shuts off when hot outside, change thermostat and radiator pressure cap.-- heres more-car shuts off when tempurature of engine gets to normal. causes; low coolant, failing coolant temp. sensor, air in water pump. it takes 10-15 minutes to reach normal range. hope this helps! good-day!

Over heating, replaced thermostat, still over heats, i have a 2004 dodge stratus, 2.4L DHOC

After changing the thermostat, did you fill it with 50/50 antifreeze to water?

Is the radiator cap (not actually on the radiator) in good shape and seating properly?

If the answer is yes to all of the this, than I would try picking up some heavy duty flush from the local parts store and flush the system really well.

Hope this helps.

Ok, g35 coupe 06,52k miles Had over heating problem in april 2010,replaced thermostat, all's well. Now Jan 2011 overheating again, noticed upper & lower radiator hoses collapse, changed thermostat...

Heres a couple of things you can check. Start your car and remove the radiator cap,(before it gets hot mind you) when it reaches norm operating temp, look inside radiator to see if water is circulating. If its not moving, its a bad water pump. Also, youre hoses should never collapse, if they collapse when they get hot maybe you need new hoses? Finally, if those dont work, flush out your radiator. Open the bottom cockpit and use a garden hose and let it flush out the system while the car is running, about 10 mins should do the trick. If the radiator looks clean inside then it doesnt need flushed.

2001 plymouth neon heater won't blow hot air. only cold. we have changed thermostat, radiator cap and flushed radiator. not odor through vents or leaks on floor board(heater core)

There is a problem with your climate control. It is not allowing the vent to open that allows air to pass through the radiator.

Hello, my fiance has been having some issues with his 2004 dodge neon running hot. We replaced the thermostat, spark plugs and wires and replaced the radiator cap and gave it a radiator flush. It does...

first check the fuse, then run a wire from the battery to the fan(s)if they run then it aint them.as you have replaced the thermostat,it aint that.so it must be the temp sensor or the relay.try the sensor first as its cheaper.....also unclip the highest hot hose and expell any air in system.(do it when hot and rear rubber gloves)

check to see if the hoses are collapsing or pinched, or the radiator needs to be flushed. could be the thermostat even though you said its not. sometimes when you get a new one, its still a bad one
